I personally reckon Watling deserves a shot for these ODI's. Though I actually have a feeling he will be left out, he has shown that he can score quickly against a quality Pakistani attack and it is also well documented how his one-day record is far superior to his FC record. But I think that his surprise demotion in the ND T20 batting order may count against him.

I'm pretty sure Kyle Mills is out until at least March.

So Jimmy Franklin is back for both. Broom stays in the ODI squad. Hopkins ahead of McGlashan in the 20/20.
MacKay and.....Pinga!!111 are in. I assume Ingram will open in place of Ryder. Must say though no Elliott, Mills, Bond or Ryder sucks big time. Last edited by Flem274*; 24-01-2010 at 02:02 PM. |

Yeah i'm fairly happy with all these selections too. IIRC it's been a while since i've said that about an NZ team. I'm glad they went for Ingram over Vincent since he's done it the hard way by churning out a bucketload of runs. One of those bowlers is bound to get an injury so McKay should get a run at some stage.

Still picking Hopkins for limited overs as well but apart from that and my nervousness over Jimmehs bowling the squad is good. EDIT: Broom sooo lucky to still be there ahead of Styris and Stewart. Has scored domestically in List A for once but his ODI record is appalling. So whose gonna miss out for the 20/20, Nathan McCullum or Gareth Hopkins? Styris was left out due to him probably not being required to bowl, given the vast amount of options. Though I do think Franklin's role in the T20 side will be minimal at best, and Styris would have been a more appropriate selection for that fixture.
I'd say Butler got the nod because of his ability at the death Last edited by bryce; 24-01-2010 at 02:40 PM. |
