Sounds good.

FWIW I think this is a great idea. It's a lot of effort to keep it going though, and enthusiasm for this kind of thing doesn't generally last. Still definitely worth a try.
Yeah, I think so too. I hope there's enough interest to justify the effort...

Strangely critical of the Indian bowlers. Only a 7 for Zaheer's 15 wickets in two games? I guess you're just seriously unimpressed by the ability to get Bangladeshi batsmen out.

I should really, really make my own ratings rather than picking apart everyone else's :p.

Yeah, I think that's fair enough. Zaheer's series average of 19 sounds impressive but as far as bowling to Bangladesh goes it's bang on par. Allowances to be made for pitches, improved batsmen etc. but it's still not quite the achievement it seems.

I thought I'd show the current averages for the Bangladesh v India series after the first few responses:

Bangladesh

Imrul Kayes _ 1.8
Junaid Siddique _ 5.3
Mahmudullah _ 7
Mohammad Ashraful _ 3.8
Mushfiqur Rahim _ 7.3
Raqibul Hasan _ 2.5
Rubel Hossain _ 2.3
Shafiul Islam _ 4.3
Shahadat Hossain _ 6.8
Shahriar Nafees _ 2.4
Shakib Al Hasan _ 6
Tamim Iqbal _ 6.8

India

MS Dhoni _ 7.8
Rahul Dravid _ 7.5
Gautam Gambhir _ 7.5
Harbhajan Singh _ 3.5
KD Karthik _ 3
Zaheer Khan _ 8.3
VVS Laxman _ 6
Amit Mishra _ 6.8
Pragyan Ojha _ 5
Virender Sehwag _ 6.3
Ishant Sharma _ 6.8
S Sreesanth _ 2
Sachin Tendulkar _ 8.8
Murali Vijay _ 5.3
Yuvraj Singh _ 1.4

Tendulkar Man of the Series so far, but Zaheer snapping at his heels.

It's a bit of a small sample so far, but the ratings are fairly consistent and fall into the range I've seen so far in this experiment. It seems there's a standard "spread" between the highest and lowest rating for each player -- a spread of 2.5 points; so if the highest rating is 7.5, all the other ratings will be between 7.5 and 5. In both of the other series we've done, there were just a couple of anomalous ratings; here there are two [Shafiul Islam 4, 4.5, 6, 2.5; and Harbhajan Singh 5, 4, 3, 1.5], where both the lowest scores were from Samuel_Vimes who anyway stated he was being a bit harsh. With a bigger sample, it might be that the 5 rating for Harbhajan Singh is the one that is anomalous.

What's interesting here is that Yuvraj Singh is rated worse than any of the Bangladesh players. I dare say not many people can put that on their resume...

7 for Laxman is pretty harsh Maximus! He scored an unbeaten 143 in his only innings!

Would have been an easy 10 if he hadn't dropped a dolly off Amla.

But you cannot rate somebody too highly if they only played one of the two games.
Dunno, I think it's fair to rate someone solely on what they did rather than on what they had no opportunity to do.

This series lent itself to using the scale. Also agree with UC.

A shame Amla will be remembered as a flat track bully now.

True dat Uppercut. I know easy counter arguement is "small sample size", which is the first thing that came to my mind but...then 2 test isnt a big sample size as well. Not to mention players only got to bat 3 times at most.

Though I would give him 8.5 rather then 7 or your 9

Hope to see some more ratings for India v South Africa.

In the mean time, although it was only a one-off test, rather than a series per se, I'm going to add New Zealand v Bangladesh as well -- partly because this is the first chance to look at New Zealand this year.

Went a bit high for Ishant as others being a bit harsh on him. Would've given him a 3 and he shouldnt play tests for a while, but he did bowl a good spell immediately prior to tea on day 1 of 2nd test, and on the 5th day we were almost grateful for any one to bowl with Harbhajan. Even picked up 2 wickets, no idea how.

Ditto for Morkel - Steyn won them the first test (while Amla ensured they wouldn't lose). But needed support, which I think Morkel did a passable job.

Kallis fan - perhaps clouds my thinking there. But, as 2nd test showed - someone had to bat with Amla to be of any use to the team.
