    aussie one day squad

James Hopes Cricket Australia’s National Selection Panel (NSP) has today announced 12-man squads for Australia’s opening two matches of the Commonwealth Bank Series against Pakistan.

    The squads are:

Australia v Pakistan, Gabba, 22 January
    Ricky Ponting (c) TAS
    Michael Clarke (vc) NSW
    Doug Bollinger NSW
    Brad Haddin NSW
    Nathan Hauritz NSW
    James Hopes QLD
    Mike Hussey WA
    Shaun Marsh WA
    Clint McKay VIC
    Peter Siddle VIC
    Shane Watson NSW
    Cameron White VIC

Australia v Pakistan, Sydney, 24 January
    Ricky Ponting (c) TAS
    Michael Clarke (vc) NSW
    Doug Bollinger NSW
    Brad Haddin NSW
    Nathan Hauritz NSW
    Mike Hussey WA
    Shaun Marsh WA
    Clint McKay VIC
    Peter Siddle VIC
    Adam Voges WA
    Shane Watson NSW
    Cameron White VIC

    NSP Chairman Andrew Hilditch said:

“The NSP has rewarded those players who have performed so well for Australia in one-day international cricket over the last six months. This period has included impressive series wins in England and India, as well as an ICC Champions Trophy victory in South Africa. This summer’s Commonwealth Bank Series against Pakistan and West Indies is a chance for the team to continue that form as we move towards the ICC World Cup in 12 months’ time.”

“The squads for the first two matches of the Commonwealth Bank Series against Pakistan have been selected to ensure that as many players are available for the KFC Twenty Big Bash Preliminary Final on 19 January and Final on 23 January, whilst not compromising the performance and preparation of the Australian team.

“As a result, the NSP has selected a different squad for both games to try and provide the best possible coverage for the start of the Commonwealth Bank Series, with squads of 12 players chosen for these two matches.

“Mitchell Johnson is having his workload managed for the first three matches of the Commonwealth Bank Series and will rejoin the squad in time for the two ODIs against Pakistan in Perth.

“James Hopes has been selected for the Brisbane match with Adam Voges replacing him for Sydney. This selection has been made with a view to ensuring we have flexibility within the squad of 12 players to accommodate the different conditions at each venue.

With Johnson being rested, Lee injured & Bracken now returning from injury. It would have been good to give Nannes a go in the ODI team, unfortunately it seems as if he still seen as a T20 specialist.

But then again i guess Nannes himself has just returned from injury..

He has represented Netherlands already. I dont think he is eligible now for a certain no. of years.
    This was a serious post:

Think we should put "Nannes" into the filter tbh.

He actually played for Australia in a T20 game a few months back. The 4 year waiting period doesn't happen for Associates.

    EDIT: Dammit aussie

Looking forward to seeing what Mackay can do. Interesting that they are resting Johnson and not Watson. I reakon Johnson bowls better and better the more cricket he plays, from memory he has taken a game or 2 to get back into it after being rested in the past.

Safe lineup selected. As a McKay fan I'm very excited.

Perhaps Watson is going to rest from bowling in the first match, and that's why Hopes is in there.

From what I can tell from reading that article, the only reason Hopes isn't there for the second game is to ensure he can play the Big Bash final the day before if Queensland make it. It does seem odd though because Voges is his replacement and WA can make the final as well...

I don't think that's really the case, I just think that the squad is only 12 and not say 14 because of the Big Bash.

Could have even gone Tait, hes in form and we may as well get him while hes hot. Plus he adds pace and takes out the need for Siddle.

Would be a decent choice in rain affected matches only.
