Athlai

Not Terrible
Graeme Smith

his captaincy and batting is worth more to this team than Sehwag's batting alone.

Ponting in SRI 04?. Plus IND 04 would have been Ponting as well if he wasn't injured, he was very much part of planning before that series. Gilchrist just ran with the blueprint.

Haa come on man. Yea Ponting isn't the greatest tactician etc, but he aint no fool & certanly isn't inept to level that you can say Murali could do as good as job skippering a side full of greats. Criminally underating Ponting's ability as a skipper here.
SL in 04 does not count since even Inzi and Moin had convincing series victory there this decade.Ponting may have been part of the planning but the results show that only test Aus lost in that series was the one where he actually captained on the field:p

We are selecting the best team so the skipper should also be the best by your logic even Murali could be choosen as the skipper since anybody can manage a bunch of greats.
Actually DWTA.

Sometimes the egos can get in each others' way.

Still, you wouldn't imagine it being the toughest job ever would you?

Absolutely has to be Ponting. For all that we hear about how Warne would've made a great Test captain, the fact is that he has never been one, and so we're just going to have to settle with never knowing.

From all accounts (that I've heard at least), Ponting's very good when it comes to man management. Certainly rallies the troops behind him well.

biased indian

International Coach
went for lara..he never had good team to lead ...he might do magic with this team hopefully never ever can consider ponting as captain of my 11 :)

bagapath

International Captain
dont want an idiot to be the skipper who would keep the part time bowlers on for a whole session when the opposition is trying to rebuild.

from cricinfo commentary...

End of over 57 (1 run) India 190/6
MS Dhoni 11* (21b)
Harbhajan Singh 11* (28b 1x4)

Andrew: "Why on earth would Hussey and White be bowling ahead of Katich at least if clarke isnt well..and surely you would throw everything at india trying to get these last 4 wickets so the over rates wouldn't matter.:

am going for gilchrist.

Indeed PAK have won two series in SRI, while even my ENG team won there in 2001. But it shouldn't discount that that winning in SRI is difficult, AUS win in SRI was much harder than in IND 04.
