Worst Cricketer of the Decade

Richard

Cricket Web Staff Member
Darren Pattinson.
One-match wonders discounted by the opening post for obvious reasons (we'd have literally hundreds of contenders otherwise) but Pattinson is actually a far better bowler than many who have played more Test cricket than he. Though he is not merely the worst selection this decade but for a great many decades.

He's actually a decent ODI bowler.
Well true, but there is no excuse why he didn't do better than he did. I think he's the ultimate proven bad cricketer. If we are to judge players who actually played games, had more than enough chances to come good but still weren't able to have success then darren powell is clearly the worst of all established cricketers. Darren powell bowled some good balls, but when he was ready to be bad he was really bad.

It's been said but, Sami.

He has won us few matches though. Tough fighter, unlike Tharanga who is absolute softcock. Has good captaincy capabilities as well.
I am not going to judge by whats in their pants but tharanga has won more games than Mubarak.. he has more hundreads to start off with. Muba looks like a slogger.. compared to tharanga.

I say Tharanga is atleast twice as good as Mubarak just my opinion.

Any of those 'Jehan Mubarak' type batsmen that NZ specialize in selecting:
Redmond, Cumming etc
The 'crap technique crew'.

Mubarak only gets selected because he has a relative on the Sri Lankan Cricket Board (or something similar).

Cumming and Redmond are by no way the worst players of this decade.

His ODI record is far too good to be the worst though. Maybe the worst test cricketer.
Powell's ODI stats aren't bad either. I can't remember his name exactly, but I know there's a Zimbabwean who has an even worse record yet. Will look it up.

Edit: Can't find them. Must be imagining things. Remember discussing a player with Prince EWS once whose career averages in FC and List A were <20 and was picked as a specialist batsman...

True, but I'm not advocating Powell. My suggestion was Xavier Marshall.

Think it's his father is some high-ranking Sri Lankan doctor who has all sorts of friends in all sorts of places or something like that. Either way it's bloody annoying.

Cephas Zhuwavo?

Bowls a bit of leg spin, admittedly, but opened the batting and was fifth change in his only ODI.
