WICB retainer contract players named

Beamer

International Vice-Captain
Or rather leaked to caribbeancricket.com. WICB in rewarding all the scabs shocker. These are the categories of contract:

A-rated players -- US$120,000 per year (apparently only 4 qualify for this. Gayle, Shiv, Sarwan and Bravo).
B-rated players -- US$80,000 per year
C-rated players -- US$60,000 per year
D-rated players -- US$24,000 per year (these are developmental players)

Contracted players by nation:

BARBADOS

Floyd Reifer - Seriously?
Fidel Edwards
Sulieman Benn
Kemar Roach
Ryan Austin
Tino Best - ??????
Kraigg Brathwaite
Kevin McLean
Omar Phillips
Dale Richards
Dwayne Smith - good to see him back

TRINIDAD & TOBAGO

Dwayne Bravo
Darren Bravo
Denesh Ramdin
Ravi Rampaul
Adrian Barath
Lendl Simmons

GUYANA

Shivnarine Chanderpaul
Ramnaresh Sarwan
Narsingh Deonarine
Travis Dowlin

JAMAICA

Chris Gayle
Jerome Taylor
Dave Bernard
Brendan Nash
Andre Creary
Nikita Miller
Chadwick Walton

WINDWARD ISLANDS

Darren Sammy
Andre Fletcher
Nelon Pascal
Devon Smith - Surely it's time to give up on him?

LEEWARD ISLANDS

Lionel Baker - WHY????
Kieran Powell
Gavin Tonge

11 players from Barbados who came 2nd from bottom last year and only 13 from the top two teams over the last 5 years combined.

There are some pretty glaring omissions in that list. Runako Morton, Andrew Richardson, Amit Jaggernauth, Kieron Pollard, Devon Thomas, Gavin Wallace etc. But the most disturbing thing of all is that 37 year old Floyd Reifer and 28 year old failure Tino Best have been given 'development' contracts in a shameful case of rewarding the scabs for their loyalty. The selectors cannot possibly have awarded most of the scabs contracts on merit so it shows that the they are not independent of Julien Hunte and his old cronies at the WICB. By giving Best and Reifer contracts they have basically denied a couple of youngsters development contracts. It is shameful in the extreme and I hope that anyone who automatically blames the players for striking (idiotic and lazy journalists like Peter Roebuck, Greg Baum and Dean Jones) can see the WICB for what they really are.

N.B: Don't be surprised if there is more conflict between the WICB and WIPA when it comes to signing these contracts as only 4 players (Shiv, Gayle, Sarwan and Bravo) have been offered A-rated contracts. I suspect Fidel Edwards and Jerome Taylor will feel extremely hard done by.

Seems harsh on Floyd Reifer. Whether you agree with the decision or not, he was a good company man, captain of WI and probably deserves a good contract for one year as 'reward' and then allowed to disappear.

The numbers seem low for top level professional cricketers. How much do FC cricketers get paid, and are these just base numbers and then they make more per match played or something?

Not when he's billed as a "developmental player" and taking the spot of a promising youngster instead.

As roseboy says, Reifer and Best are taking the place of young players. How do you develop a 37 year old cricketer? It shows that our selectors are not independent from the WICB. Through rewarding the scabs they have denied promising young leg spinners like Gavin Wallace and Davendra Bishoo development contracts.

Btw players on the list who make the West Indies team will also collect fees of US$5,000 per Test, US$2,000 per ODI and US$1,500 per T20 International. They will also collect US$35,000 per day in sponsorship fees.

Exactly what I meant. He has been captain of the West Indies in recent months and is 37 and has been given a tiny developmental contract. He should have been rewarded more substantially for the next year and in a more respectful way.
