That team could beat some of the Alltime test XIs on a good day.

... he'd probably want to stand down in favour of Fender

    Ian Ward
    Rory Hamilton-Brown
    Percy Fender
    DR Jardine
    Ian Grieg
    Arthur Gilligan
    Arnold Long
    Ian Salisbury
    Saqlain Mushtaq
    Mushtaq Ahmed
    Geoff Arnold

A bit weak in the batting. And bowling. Jardine lucky to make the team; his captaincy skills get him in.

If you're prepared to resort to overseas players, you could add the young Waqar Younis, possibly the best fast bowler ever.

You could drop a batsman but then the tail would be a little long. So - Lohmann, Bedser, Richardson - who makes way?

Good team, but looks just a bit bat-heavy. Not sure that Hayward ever actually batted as low as 6. Ramprakash has done enough in the last decade to secure selection - I got the impression with Thorpe that he rather lost interest in Surrey once he secured his England place. Stewart too, barely mentions the county in his book after making his Test debut - perhaps because he missed so many games during the glory years of 1996-2001 he found it hard to feel a part of it.
