**Official** New Zealand v Pakistan in UAE

DIRK-NANNES

U19 Vice-Captain
GJ Hopkins† c Hughes b Bailey 3
At least he lives up to his average

THE XI:
Guptill
Watling [Redmond maybe if it's a big turner]
Broom
Taylor
Styris
Vettori
BB McCullum
Oram
Mills
NL McCullum / Butler
Bond

Redmond's legspin could be handy, he bowled with good flight and turn when he got the chance in the Champions League.
Butler or Nathan would be picked on conditions and performance.
I dunno how serious Vettori is about batting @ 6, but he does have form behind him unlike Oram, so he can continue there.

Franklin would only play as a specialist bat if someone got injured, he's unlikely to get conditions that suit his bowling.

Meh, he's good, he's not the favourite, worth a look.

Except I never bet because I'm guaranteed to fail/don't trust my luck. If Zimbabwe beat Aussie in a test match, I probably placed a bet.

Don't think like that - you're sure to have beginner's luck! Go on, what else would you do with a lazy $1000?

New Zealand (probable): 1 Aaron Redmond, 2 Brendon McCullum (wk), 3 Martin Guptill, 4 Ross Taylor, 5 Scott Styris, 6 Neil Broom, 7 Daniel Vettori (capt), 8 Jacob Oram, 9 Nathan McCullum, 10 Shane Bond, 11 Tim Southee

Hopefully Broom will come through and justify the faith shown in him.

Haha, back from work, logged in expecting news of some last minute injury concern & invariably there it is ...Mills

Not Terrible
I don't think that will be the XI that takes the field. I think with the talk of putting McCullum down the order they'll be trying to give Guptill and whoever they want at 3 in the long term a bit of game time.

So I'd say McCullum - Guptill and then the next number 3

But who is going to be the next 3? Styris? Taylor? Or will Redmond continue his role as a place holder.

Oram at 8 is a bit peculiar, I know his battings gone but I don't really consider him good enough to get in on his bowling alone. Keen to watch this but I do have an exam tomorrow...
