*Official* Australia in India - ODIs

Logic being: We just had a fantastic display of everything that is good about ODI cricket.... how can we ruin it?
 So Shane Watson turns the Champions Trophy into a beautiful tournament into a success and himself into a hero from a crock in two games? I do hope there was a pun there somewhere:unsure:

Very interesting that they're going to stick Marsh in and drop Paine down the order. The Australian opening partnership has been ridiculously unstable this last few years. As this article demonstrates, with Watson at that point having 8 opening partners in 23 games at the start of the England ODIs.

Yeah I wasn't talking about Watto. I was talking about this series.

I think Paine will only bat down the order if a batsman gets injured/rested, Voges will just slot straight in for Ferguson I reckon. Lots of people have reservations about Paine opening but he's certainly a lot more suited to batting there in ODIs than batting six or seven where he has to either rotate the strike or hit big from ball one.

This article says that Paine will drop down the order. It's in the middle of an article with quotes from Hildich, but there's no quotes on that specifically.

Hmm that's interesting then. I think it's the wrong move from a winning-the-series point of view although I still believe Australia's best ODI team would have Watson opening with Marsh, and Haddin in the middle order, so I guess it's working towards that as an option.

The Wheel is Forever
Just on a side-note, I was reading the other day that the BCCI will make more money from each match in this series than they will do from the whole of the world cup! You can see why it's seven matches long.
Yea, they will make about a $100 million USD from this series ($12-15mil per game). I have no idea where all that money goes.

Should really have sent a B side and let the senior players have a bit of a rest
That probably would be against the contract they signed, and ACB would make less money from doing that too.

Is this the third year in a row Australia have gone to India?

Fourth in fact, as they were there for the CT in 06?

Good chance for Zaheer and Sehwag to get out of the usual rustiness seen after comebacks from injury. Are they playing?

Yea this ODI aint since it was announced way back was real overkill of IND v AUS cricket - but i'm a still watch it.

Dont see why the selectors aren't picking Nannes in the ODI side but picking Bollinger TBH. Nannes shouldn't just be considered a T20 specialist at all.

Seeing Henriques for NSW today, Hopes needs to watch it this series.

7 matches is just stupid, interesting to see that Indian's are looking forward to it, but we hate it...anyway, India should win, but if I hear Holland is playing, I'll get a stream to have a look at him.

Haha, according to the FTP Australia are also due in India this time next year for a 7 match ODI series.

Reckon Paine will move down the order if he, Marsh and Watson all play in the same team. Would prefer if Voges slotted straight into the 6 spot though now that I think about it. Paine/Watson are both in reasonably good form, and given both are certainties to be in the team, there's no point messing up the opening combination when Voges is a better ODI batsmen than Marsh imo
I just don't understand what made them go back to Marsh, when the opening combination of Paine and Watto were doing a decent job, on top of that the way Paine bats, he would be nothing short of a liability in the middle order, as its not really his forte to play the big shots.

Also very disappointed with the news that Fregie is gonna be out with an injury for almost 12 months, he was well on his way to establish himself in the ODI side, but the timing of his injury couldn't have been worse, hopefully someone else steps up in his absence.

Has there been any info about Michael Clarke's back? It doesn't seem good that it's gone on so long.
Said this during the CT and would say this again, I think he has just been dropped from the ODI side and its as simple as that, I can't believe that a stiff back caused by long flight could force a player out for this long, anyways whichever way you look at it, its good riddance from Aussie perspective.

Haven't seen anything of Holland personally, but I guess it's not that big of a surprise to see him in the squad given the selectors propensity to give every spinner with an FC match under their belt a run over the past 2/3 years.
Holland is not the worst spinner going around in Australia atm, but he has hardly played any games at the domestic level, and I think its way too early to push him into international cricket.

Anyways, this will be my XI for the first game:

1.S.Marsh
2.S.Watson
3.R.Ponting
4.C.White
5.M.Hussey
6.A.Voges
7.T.Paine
8.M.Johnson
9.B.Lee
10.N.Hauritz
11.P.Siddle

Its pretty likely to be the XI for the first game, and the batting clearly looks pretty thin, and with the inclusion of Marsh the team combination too gets messed up, Hopes who could prove to be more than a handy contributor in Indian conditions is most likely to miss out, also in case either Voges or White struggle with the bat, or one of the batsmen get injured then we clearly don't have a reserve batsman to fill in for them.

The starting XI for India with the injured players returning should be something like this:

Sachin Tendulkar
Virender Sehwag
Gautham Gambhir
MS Dhoni
Yuvraj Singh
Suresh Raina
Ravindra Jadeja (At least does one thing right compared to Yusuf Pathan - bowling)
Harbhajan Singh (Should bat ahead of Jadeja at no.7 if a wicket falls after the 40th over)
Zaheer Khan
Amit Mishra
Ishant Sharma / Praveen Kumar
