The Australia Under-19 has arrived in Darwin to prepare for five one-day matches against Sri Lanka at Gardens and Marrara Ovals, with the first match getting underway this Friday at Gardens Oval. Play starts at 10am.

BARNES OUT
Got smashed in the second game but Maddinson tonned up. Been saying it since he was 13 years old, but the kid will play for Australia. Having seen him bash us all over Rugby Park time and time again I've never been surer of anything in my life.

stunning victory by srilanka.
Looks a weak aussie team atm, lost to india and srilanka.
Lot of work to do before the world cup.
Not many stand out performances by our guys, except a maddison 100.

Quite a few guys missing such as Hazelwood and Marsh for starters. Was a pretty unsettled squad I'd say given they used a different captain each game and batting orders etc... were a bit all over the shop.

The batting of the side is a real worry lots of allrounders, good bowlers, hard to see us being competitive in the next youth world cup.
Our last side on paper was much better and we got nowhere.
We will have to find some new batsmen soon, and hack all the allrounders.

A lot of players struggled in the last youth world cup, even Hughes barely made a run didn't he?

Also Jack would have a better idea of this than me having been part of the set up but from what I've heard the squad is almost picked before they even have the 19's carnival. I know a lot of the ACT guys have had a big whinge in the past because they have had great 19's competitions but been overlooked for guys they out performed but were from Queensland, NSW and Victoria.
If this is the case then perhaps better players are out there but not being considered.

It may have changed a bit in structure since I went through, but there's no doubt that they have their eyes on players well before the carnival, and performances in the carnival are not the sole reason for choice. Performance in grade cricket and 2nd XI stuff counts for maybe even more, as it is a higher level of cricket than the U/19 championships.

When I was involved, a lot of players from the smaller states would have good carnivals, but their
performances were against each other in the two day stuff, rather than against the traditionally stronger sides. Still, we had Will Sheridan and Adam Ritchard selected for our Aus side, with no-one from SA or WA and only one from QLD.

Ah yeh I guess thats fair enough, last year in particular the ACT guys felt hard done by after coming 2nd or 3rd and they got no one in the squad.
