questions
1 will rudolph play for south africa or england.
2 will the s africans play their domestic season(20/20) or ipl,or has it not been decided yet.
1. My guess the former. Apparently had visa trouble for the forthcoming county season and the prospect for next is even more bleak.
2. Do they even clash? Pro20 starts early next month.

1. Rudolph has made it quite clear he wants to wear the green and gold again but whether he will, will be interesting. I wish he could open for SA tomorrow.
2. Like TT says...big difference in schedule isn't there?

First IPL game is on March 12th. Pro20 final is on the 12th of March. So the players if their sides make the domestic final, will miss a week if that of the IPL.

What about the 2 rounds of the supersport series, first class matches they clash too.
 What about it? Even before the advent on the IPL, big players such as Kallis, Smith, and Boucher hardly ever played first class cricket. Boucher spent years at the Cobras yet the amount of games he played in all formats could be counted on one hand. Franchises would probably prefer the players to head to India as well, they get compensation.

What about the domestic players playing ipl, that would really weaken all 6 sides if they play ipl.
Don’t think there is many, is there? The likes of Abdulla, van der Merwe et cetera hardly ever feature in SuperSport whilst as I said AB de Villiers playing for Delhi won’t put the Titans out, as he plays all of five domestic games a season.

Standard Bank, who sponsor the Pro20 apparently are insisting on the players turning up for the latter stages of the tournament but there is no commercial demand that they be present for the end of the first class season.

I have been really impressed wiith Colin Ingram and Dave Miller this season. Both would make my 'A' squad in limited overs cricket. Ingram was SA schools captain in 2003 and Miller played SA colts in 2008.

Just on Miller I don't think I've seen a young player miss hit so many sixes that go 10 to 15 rows back. No doubt could fill the number 6 role in the ODI line-up just like his fellow ex-Maritzburg College boy Jonty Rhodes. Also like lightning at backward point like Jonty.

You add Elgar (test player) and Rossouw and Vandiar you've got such youthful talent in the batting.

TT boy:

Have you heard of Lionel Vaaltyn (young Warriors leggie) and Calvin Savage who is only 16 and made SA schools like Parnell did as a fast bowler. The word is he is the real deal and is well over 6ft at only 16 and bowls with serious gas as well. Also a Maritzburg College boy like Rhodes and Miller.

It's interesting that there's some wrist spinners with potential coming through. Kaber and Vaaltyn and also Shaun von Berg who seems to be dominating the amateur circuit as much as Tahir.

Most definitely Popepouri.

They will help SA cricket ito variety especially Tahir. But I don't want Tahir to play for SA because I want SA talent to wear the green & gold because we have enough talent here.

Von Berg carries a lot of weight and I'm not sure if he fits into the SA way of thinking that you have to be fit and energetic to play for SA. Could be a good player for Titans though.

I'm really excited about Vaaltyn and Savage though. Both in the SA U19 squad for this year and next. Real talents. Both were in the SA schools team last year. Vaaltyn can hold the bat as well. Savage is just a remarkable talent....they say equivalent of Parnell talent. Both were 16 when picked for SA schools first as fast bowlers and thats some achievement.

On Thomas Kaber...don't know whats happened there. He has become a batsman who bowls a bit. A bit of a disappointment considering he was a rare left-arm chinaman bowler.

Just wondering. Who in your opinion is a better local talented spinner that should play instead of Tahir when he eventually actually qualifies?.

I want the best South African spinner to play for South Africa. When Harris and Tahir play together for the Titans...Harris always outperforms him. In fact Tahir has been dropt from the Titans team and has hardly played this season. Only 2 4-day games where he has 5 wickets or so at 50 a piece.

The best ODI spinner is Botha and is the all-round option you want for ODI cricket.

So to me you keep Harris and Botha going who have both got into the top 10 of the ICC bowling rankings in their forms of cricket but continually are under-estimated.

So to me its fine and I genuinely believe Lionel Vaaltyn is at a good franchise that give young players chances so I'm sure he will develop into a quality SA leggie.

No. Haven't really been following schools cricket this season.

Been impressed with David Miller though and of course Richard Levi. Bout time the Cobras give him a real opportunity.

Elgar and CJ de Villiers back playing provincial cricket. Surprising considering how good CJ was in the Champions League.

Shame Afridi and Malinga couldn't make it. Afridi would have been a huge hit at Kingsmead.

CJ de Villiers really went down the crapshoot this season.

Just keep an eye out on those two TT. I think the standard of the last u19 WC was poor in contrast to the last u19 WC. I don't think any those SA players will play for SA. I know Hendricks was player of the tourney but I think he was lucky in some quarters to have made the squad in the first place.

Dean Elgar is only seen as a 4-day player or potential test player. Very limited in his off side stroke play off the front foot.

Never really rated CJ De Villiers tbh....good franchise bowler but really has been poor this season. Like Tsotsobe sometime nothing comes out and sometimes a magic ball.

Vandiar really has taken to his role at the top of the order. He is poor against the spinners when he first starts and thats why it has worked for him. He reminds me of Jayasuriya in the way he hits over the in-field and takes on the power plays.

Of course Rossouw is a class player who can hit all-round the ground off both front and back foot but is prone to a silly shot out of nowhere like Vandiar but both are high risk high reward players.

Dave Miller has taken limited overs cricket by storm. Benkenstein was full of praise of his talent the other night. Cleanest striker of the ball since Albie and Klusener and I think he can match them or better them in a 6-hitting comp.

Also Colin Ingram and Rusty Theron have to be mentioned as well. Continued their MTN40 form into the T20 last night. HD Ackerman was praising them both.

I like the look of Graham Hume. He's not quick but good action and control. His spell today was 8 overs, 7 maidens for one run and 2 wickets.
