I noticed Smethurst in the Hampshire 2nd XI when I was looking over some of their scorecards.

From what I remember, he didn't sign during the off-season. How did he end up at the Rose Bowl?

My guess is it's just as cover for injuries.

A lot of counties do it at one point or another.

Bizarrely he's playing for England against me in ICC at the moment!

Smethurst actually played semi-professional cricket in Trinidad last season and once or twice before that I believe.

Re ICC: He one of the top players... and Vaughan, Tresco, Hussain are crap. :P

This is my Indian game, where the almighty AA is number 8 and captain.

For a while he was simultaneously number 1 bowler in both forms of the game.
