Btw, whose got the worst hair, Sidebottom or Bracken?
Matt asking the difficult questions, if somewhat agrammatically.

Sidebottom, for mine, but ironically Bracken looks worse with his. Although whatever haircut he goes for is just polishing a turd, pretty much. He said from the safety of his glass house.

Anyway, on Saj, he does have arguably the best List A record of any English-qualified seamer this season, apart from the 58 year old Corky. Kirtley's taken more wickets but with a much higher ER (5.90 to Saj's 4.55). From CricketArchive.

Bracken's is far worse. You can only pull off the alice band if your Hispanic, Italian or just ridiculously good looking with beautifully conditioned hair. Bracken is none of the above.

Sidebottom however looks like a beastly caveman type figure who will bash your face in with his club.

Denly! I have always backed him and don't know why Cribb is so against him. He looks good, whatever little I have seen of him.

A top comment in cricinfo commentary.

Ian has this beauty: "Some quick maths: Lee bowling at 150 km/h = 41.33 m/s. Invert this to s / m and we get approx 0.025 seconds / meter. Distance between Strauss's gloves and shoulder a bullish 0.5 m. More likely .3 m. But let's say 0.5 m. Time taken between gloves and shoulder = 0.0125 seconds. AKA 1 split second. Difficult to say umpire is at fault here as he heard a noise and saw a deflection from original line of ball, and difference between gloves and shoulder a split second. One more piece of evidence though for proper 3rd umpire referals though. Hope the The Lions get a win tonight!! "

^ I just copied it to paste it here as well...indeed top comment.............tells a lot about what the umps go through in the field......

Doubt anyone apart from Bracken's immediate family (which includes Nath, obv) would say he's better looking tho, tbf. Resembles a butch lesbian who's trying to make a effort to appear feminine.
Both are extremes .........one looks like a lesbo and the other from the Flinstones family.............

Generally a different sound between a shoulder and bat though, so all that is a tad pointless.

Shocking decision, or are we just going to say it's perfectly excusable for the umps to give any deflection out?

What a surprise. England batsman gets in, plays a decent shot or 2, and then smacks one to a fielder. We're rubbish. Ravi'll do the same in a minute.

Such things are certainly not excusable because its not Hockey or Soccer where such decision may or may not have a big impact on the game....but in a cricket game it certainly has a significant impact....they must introduce the tech. Sounds are not easy to hear in a ground full of people making noise......

No. It is just some maths to help explain the otherwise inexplicable complexities of the job of an international umpire. Of course, referrals are the way forward, as the comment ackowledged, it was just an interesting exercise.

How much have you seen of Denly? I have seen a bit and believe he is certainly not crap. Might have an international career too.
This is precisely the sort of attitude that got the over-rated hack into the team. Domestically he averages 30 and strikes at 70. That's barely good enough to hold his place in Kent's one day team, really. Today was a perfect example of the sort of innings that has got him those sort of stats throughout his career - a solid looking but slow start at the crease followed by a get-out shot. He may have 'looked good' to you today but he scored 25 off 43 balls and his record indicates he does that sort of thing a hell of a lot, so looking good really doesn't mean very much at all.

I'll agree that he has some of the basic ingredients to being an international player but he really shouldn't be anywhere near the team until he starts actually putting them to use. He's nothing but a poor man's Ian Bell at this stage.
