Luke Wright out of the series and given the Champions Trophy starts next Monday, he will be out of that as well.

Ideal opportunity to get a real batsman in there now...
Luke Wright's useful. Don't think there's anyone you'd prefer in the bats-at-seven, bowls-fourth-change role. Toss-up between him and Dimi.

Indeed, but it's not an incredibly important role. This gives England a chance to get Trott into the squad and drop Bopara or Denly. They won't though.

Ah yeah, see what you mean.

It's slightly odd that even a team as dire as England has one position in their side that's almost surplus to requirements. You'd love another batsman in there to let the top order play with a little more freedom, but you know that they won't play with any freedom anyway, because they're England, and therefore have to play all their one-day cricket under the watchful eye of Geoff Boycott just waiting to rabidly destroy their character for playing a silly shot/throwing their wicket away/being irresponsible/not valuing their wicket.

Reminds me of sometihng very odd that bumble said about Pontings innings the other night, the thing he seemed most impressed by was that 'he had played no daft shots,' as if this and not the massive gulf in class and ability was the reason that Ponting was able to play such an inngings while none of the English batsmen of doing something similar. Seemed to reflect the idea that England's problem in ODI cricket is simply one of throwing their wickets away which a number of people in the game seem to believe.

That's the thing though, no matter how blatent it is they will never just admit it comes down to being inferior or not good enough players. It's always "we have the players/talent" "they just lack a bit of confidence" "they just dont know their roles at the moment" etc etc.

Nick Knight was the worst for this during the T/20 WC. Refusing to accept England lack quality firepower with comments such as "Owais Shah is a hitter" and "Collingwood can hit a big ball" etc etc

Stuart Broad has been ruled out of the last two ODI's with a knee injury. Anderson comes in.

Cricinfo is reporting that Broad is not a doubt for the Champions Trophy but given England are playing in it next week and Broad can't feature on Sunday, surely there must be some doubt about his participation.

Aus with a much weakend batting line-up with Johnson and Clarke replaced by Lee and Hopes. A few quick wickets here early on could set up England up.

Love watching Watto bat.

Btw, whose got the worst hair, Sidebottom or Bracken?

Edit: lol, Sidey, learn to bowl...

I just don't get why Paine has been thrown in the deep end and made to open. It's pretty clear he's not good enough to do it yet, why not ease him in down the order? Even Haddin had heaps of time to settle down in the middle order before being asked to do it.

The ball is swinging. Perfect conditions but what do you do? Bowl like a ****. The batsman goes on defending like a **** too. Worst series.

Nah, don't mind Paine opening. Give him a taste, he's not there long-term, he's there as an understudy. Keep the team structure the same, and then he'll go back to state cricket and understand what he needs to improve.
