Strauss gets out driving outside the off-stump. He barely ever gets out to a seamer any other way. Here's his last ten dismissals this summer:

c&b Hauritz at Lord's. Out to a spinner.
Caught slip off Lee at the Oval. Out driving loosely outside off stump.
Caught slip off North at the Oval. Out to a spinner, but still driving outside off.
Caught behind off Hilfenhaus at the Oval. Out poking outside off stump.
Lbw to Hilfenhaus at Headingley.
Caught slip off Siddle at Headingley. Driving loosely outside off stump.
Caught behind off Hilfenhaus at Edgbaston. Trying to cut a full ball outside off stump.
Caught slip off Hauritz at Lord's. Driving loosely outside off stump.
Bowled Hilfenhaus. Brain fade on 161.
Caught behind off Hauritz at Cardiff. Cutting a full ball outside off stump.

I wonder about Australia's plans. In test matches it's hard because he's become excellent at leaving the ball- you really need someone who can get the ball to straighten from around the wicket. In ODIs you can just float it out there full and wide and let him get himself out. The number of balls he's had on his pads is shocking.

Really need to reconsider Prior's place in the one day side.
People have been saying this for ages. Whenever it looks like he's finally going to be dropped, though, a Test series rolls around and he plays a few quick-fire innings that make people think he deserves another go in the colours.

The real insanity of it all is the fact that they have a 23 year old wicket keeper who opens the batting in one day domestic cricket, takes advantage of the PowerPlays and hits over the top. His stats for the this season? Over 650 runs @ 56 with a strike rate of 112.

I see it's all going to the selectors masterplan. This batting line-up is so cosmically poor that clearly they wanted to show it off to everyone again. Deep joy.

Hilf doesn't swing the white ball, almost at all.
Not just Hilf. Those things just don't swing these days. Picking any swing bowler in one-day cricket is a bit of a waste of time.

The talk back when Hilf came into the ODI side earlier this year was that he was very good at the death. Anything to that?

Chris Swan hoops it.

Yeah?

It's not unheard of, but it's very rare to see a white ball swing these days. Which is exactly why lbws like Shah just got shouldn't really be given. Good appeal from the Aussies. Really bought that wicket.

It's such a damning indictment of the format that James Hopes's bowling is so useful. What's the point of the guy? He just bowls 80mph on a length. In test matches he'd get milked, in T20s he'd get smashed. Only in an ODI could such a dour, dour bowler be such an asset.

Reckon the horrible shot contributed to the umpire giving him out. Something that you see umpires do more often in lower levels where there isn't the replays.

Hmm yeah. Or leaves. If the ball hits your pad when you're not playing a shot in school cricket you're goooone.

It seems like Strauss has found a way to be a very fine one day batsman. So far, I'm impressed!

The Ump has done us a favour as he most likely would have run Strauss out by now if he was still out there.
