this two innings 40 overs is simply rubbish, and will not prepare Players for one day international Level. What are the ECB thinking off

There should be a change in format, Basically bring back a knockout competition with minor counties and board xi back in. Have a sunday league towards the end of the season (North and South) 50 overs.and a twenty20 with 15 games in early to mid summer., With Knockout

Yeah sounds strange, if they are going down the 3 competition route it has to be one FC, one 50 over , one T20 format its the only sensible schedule.. Unless they know something we don't know about the demise of ODI's

A combined First-Class and 50-over tournament would be the most ideal outcome, with a 60-over knockout added on. Then Twenty20 as a brief midsummer thingy.

Certainly it would be a bizarre decision to cut the format of which the World Cup is contested. I'm all for experimenting and using innovations to retain interest and take the game forward, but I do not understand why we would take away a format of which we contest at international level. How are players supposed to impress selectors ? How will the younger players learn about the format ? It strikes me as nonsense at this stage.

According to Somerset's (whatever position he holds at the moment) Brian Rose, from next season there'll be the County Championship, an expanded Twenty/20 with double the current amount of fixtures and a 40 over League played just on Sundays (as it used to be) that will include..............declarations.
They're not considering the 50 over World Cup when deciding the domestic format as England have been **** at 50 over matches no matter what.

Was it Rose who declared in a 60-over game in 1978 or whenever it was?

If so that might explain his thinking there.

He did declare after one ball of a 55 Over group stage B & H match which by the laws would have ensured qualification for the knock-out stages. They were thrown out though for transgressing the mythical "spirit of the game".

Read about that, I believe it is the reason declaring is outlawed in limited overs cricket

It was the catalyst for a rule being brought in which should have been there from the start. Had Rose's declaration not happened when it did, something else similar would've done at some point. It's just a shame people don't have the foresight to stop it happening at all.
