Countries First Test to present - can you name a side?

NUFAN

Y no Afghanistan flag
In 11 moves can you name a team to cover a countries entire Test playing days?

The catch being the player that you select must have played in the cricketer listed aheads final test.

You don't have to select players in batting order so it could be:

Australia: Charles Bannermann Test #1 1877 > Fred Spofforth Test #25 1887 etc.

Anyone who decides to do South Africa can chose someone who played in the last game before apartheid and the player after in the first game back. Apartheid effectively being the 12th man.

International 12th Man
Len Hutton*
Greame Gooch
WG Grace
KS Ranjitsinhji
Graham Thorpe
Colin Cowdrey
Les Ames+
Andrew Flintoff
Wilfred Rhodes
George Ulyett
Derek Underwood

Probably a seamer light but possibly compensated by some very deep batting, so overall decent team if I do say so myself. Chronologically the order is:

Ulyett
Grace
Ranji
Rhodes
Ames
Hutton
Cowdrey
Underwood
Gooch
Thorpe
Flintoff

International 12th Man
Chris Gayle
Everton Weekes
George Headley
Brian Lara
Clyde Walcott
Garry Sobers*
Deryck Murray+
Learie Constantine
Malcolm Marshall
Wes Hall
Curtly Ambrose

The West Indies is obviously easier as they have a shorter time-span to navigate, or alternately more difficult as because it is shorter there are many more possible routes to take making it more taxing trying to get exactly the right combination of players you want!

Days of Grace

International Captain
Dempter
Turner
Fleming
Crowe
Sutcliffe
McCullum
Cairns
Hadlee
Taylor
Cowie
Bond

Not sure if Cowie played with Dempter, but there you have it.

The chronological order being:

Dempster
Cowie
Sutcliffe
Taylor
Turner
Hadlee
Crowe
Cairns
Fleming
Bond
McCullum

Did Ponting play a Test with Border?

Amazing if he did. I hadnt realized there was an overlap. My mind sees them as being from two seperate generations.

No Goughy you are correct.

Borders last test match. 3rd Test: South Africa v Australia at Durban, Mar 25-29, 1994 | Cricket Scorecard | Cricinfo.com

Ponting's first was Dec 8-11, 1995.

Maybe 11 is a little difficult for Australia.
Its possible but I made a silly mistake.

Here is another which satisfies everything but for Ryder. Though a fine vatsman with a Test average in the fifties in 20 Tests, he opened only twice and not with great success. Maybe I can do better :)

Of course the sides with shorter histories are so simple you could almost put their greatest ever sides and still get them to cover the short period of time - like Pakistan here. :)
