Does veer towards the "too much information", frankly. Surely "routine but necessary surgery" would've sufficed?

Some score settling going on IMHO.
Pakistan watchers will tell you that when they really want to hide something they will always say far too much and mostly it is not about the pertinent stuff. The extra detail (unwanted and "too much information" if you please) is basically to lend it a veneer of authenticity.

And SJS, funny you give that picture, apparently,
