Just got a media release from CA.

Happy to see Klinger in the side!!!

Australia A side named to play Pakistan A

The Cricket Australia National Selection Panel (NSP) has today announced the Australia A squad for the series against Pakistan A to be played in Townsville and Brisbane in late June and early July.

The squad will be led by Australian contracted player and Victoria captain Cameron White.

The series comprises two four-day matches to be played at Tony Ireland Stadium in Townsville, before moving to Allan Border Field in Brisbane for the remaining three one-day matches and Twenty20 game.

    The Australia A squad is:

    Cameron White (captain) VIC 25
    Adam Voges (vice-captain) WA 29
    George Bailey TAS 26
    Doug Bollinger NSW 27
    Ryan Broad QLD 27
    Burt Cockley NSW 23
    Callum Ferguson SA 24
    Brett Geeves+ TAS 26
    Moises Henriques* NSW 22
    Jon Holland VIC 21
    Michael Klinger SA 28
    Jason Krejza TAS 26
    Shaun Marsh+ WA 25
    Clint McKay VIC 26
    Tim Paine TAS 24
    Shaun Tait*+ SA 26
    David Warner* NSW 22

    *One-day and Twenty20 matches only
    +Selected subject to fitness

Cricket Australia NSP Chairman Andrew Hilditch said; “The NSP has, with view to the future of Australian cricket, selected a very young squad to play both the four-day and one-day games.

“The selection recognises the performances of these young talented players in the domestic season last year whilst concentrating on those players we have identified as having the ability to play a significant role in the development of Australian cricket in the future.

“Following the four-day matches in Townsville, Ryan Broad, Michael Klinger and Burt Cockley will leave the squad and Warner, Henriques and Tait will come in.

“Our focus on the one-day matches is to take the opportunity to look at players with a view to our preparation for the 2011 ICC World Cup in the subcontinent.

“Cameron White will captain the side in both the four-day and limited overs matches. Cameron has experienced both Test and limited overs cricket at the highest level and has been a very good leader for Victoria, which includes captaining the recent Weet-Bix Sheffield Shield final winning team.

“The NSP is very happy with this squad and we look forward to following the team’s progress throughout the series in Queensland.”

    -More-

Tickets for Townsville matches will be available for purchase through Ticketshop on 1800 644 749 or at cPanel. Tickets to matches at Allan Border Field will be sold on the gate on match days (no pre-sale of tickets). Adult tickets will start from $8.00.

Ticket on-sale dates for Townsville matches are yet to be confirmed and more information will be available on Cricket Australia over the coming days.

There was an article in the Messenger papers about him last week I think....I only have a PDF copy but will try to track down a link to it. It outlined his schedule there and what he does each day.

No major surprises in the Australian squad.

Mix of the backup Australian cricketers, contracted cricketers, domestic performers, and some young up-coming players.

Possibly Jon Holland is the only smokey to make the side. Was impressive in his few games for Victoria last season, without being overly successful. Watched him bowl in two games for Victoria, and he always kept a tight line whilst occasionally tossing the ball up.

Tim Paine must surely be considered the number three wicket-keeper batsman in the country now. Only keeper named in the side, is given a good opportunity to prove himself. Was expecting one of Wade or Hartley to also make the side after there recent strong finishes to the Shield season.

Opportunities are open in the Australian side right now. A strong performance for Australia 'A' can easily catapult one of these players into national honours.

Good thing the selectors aren't easily fooled by late-season form against average bowling attacks with an Ashes tour in the offing. Have to give them credit for their wicket-keeper picks of late.

Yes no complaints from me, I'm just happy they don't consider Luke Ronchi as 3rd in line.

Indeed, the trifecta of good (non-)selection. Wasn't looking good for a while there and I'm convinced had he batted even mildly well for Aus in the games he's gotten, he'd still be in the selector's minds. As it was, he was rank so owing to his 'keeping', he's right out of contention.
