RBK bats

Hi guys,

I'm thinking of buying a RBK cricket bat via the internet, for the moment I'm doubting between the Dhoni 183 model and the big six.

Does any of you have some experience with any of these bats?

I already tried them in the shop but due to unexpected events I had to go home earlier then planned.

Both bats feel more or less the same and for me both of them are pretty good.

The bats has to use a as a back up bat as my Kookaburra is starting to show some little cracks and I wouldn't like to fall out of bat this season.

I will use ebay and the price is around €40 a bat.

I did a lot of bat shopping at the end of last season, ended up going with a newbery samurai, but got a chance to use some of the puma bats shortly afterwards, pumas are the best i've ever used by a distance. Power to weight ratio miles ahead of anything else I've ever used, really nice pick up, evenly balanced, an enormous middle, would seriously recommend getting one. Not had any experience with RBK bats (except the small fake one my dad got me when I was 7 to play tennis ball cricket with, affectionately named 'whoopingness').

Most Ebay bats that sell for around that price are not genuine. They'll be cheap Indian willow that claims to be 'English Willow nurtured in India' which is effectively Kashmir with RBK stickers popped on. That means they're very prone to cracking and will often break within a year of full use. I'd advise spending a fair amount more than €40 if you want to get a decent bat that's actually going to last longer than a few months. Gunn and Moore are probably the best mainstream brand going around atm. Every 2009 G+M I've seen so far has been of superb quality. I've got an Icon DXM 909 myself and it's a brilliant bat, easily the best I've had.

I'm aware that most "cheap" bats on the net aren't that good quality, but as mentioned in my first post it's just tempory. The bat I'm using now was a gift from my second mom and we bought it at rebel sport and paid 250 NZ $ for it. And it's a qualitybat.

But this cheap bat is just to switch between bats and mostlikely use it on the beach.
In August our team is going on a 4 day trip to the UK, might buy a decent bat then.

I also found some cheap Gunn & Moore bats on ebay.

I will see what the best price is.

Why dont you have one of us from India ship it to you? I would NEVER buy my cricket merchandise from internet. Most of the shops dont deliever it on time and the delay is not worth cause they deliever what can not come any close to genuine!

Really you liked the G&M bats? Never really been a fan of them tbh, never seemed to feel right, was always a Grey Nicholls user as a kid (I remember my Sabre fondly), I think apart from Laver & Wood (has anyone ever used one? I saw one in a case once but was forbidden from even touching the damn thing), Newbery get the best quality willow, when you're feeling in top form the Mjolnir's got to be the weapon of choice, so perfectly balanced. Different people like different qualities in bats I suppose, I prefer balance and an easy pick up, but some of my team mates just want as much power as they can get. Also take into account the kind of surfaces you expect to play on, one of the reason's I got the Samurai is because it has a very low middle, considering I tend to play on slow surfaces it helps a lot. Wouldn't recommend buying a bat from ebay, false economy IMO, you'll end up having to buy another bat.

I never used to be a fan of G&M's, but the current set are all very nice. The Icon is especially nice. Such a good pick up, huge edges and a great middle (not that I find it too often ). Far better than my last bat, a Woodworm Gold Hard Drive, cracked after about 4 months, shocking!

Have a Gray Nicolls Jet 1000 myself, one of the last ones with the carbon fibre handle :P

I hated the GN Fusion, but I love the Jet. Really well balanced and a pretty high middle which helps cause I play on artificial concrete pitches (stupid NZ!!) which bounce a lot. Pings off the middle well.

I wouldn't buy a bat from ebay, you don't really know what you're getting and will probably just be wasting your money on a dud. Better to go to a shop that specialises in cricket equipment, at least then you can look at and do a bit of shadow batting with what you are potentially going to buy. Don't buy bats from a place like Rebel Sport either, they don't get to choose the bats they get (unlike a specialist cricket shop) so they get all the worst quality stuff. Very rarely do you find a quality piece of wood at Rebel Sport.

I know Ebay isn't the best place to buy a bat, actually the wost place to buy one.

But I do have to mention that the dealer mentions that the bats made from kashmir willow and the price stays low. the purpose of the bat would be to play some cricket in the park and on the beach while using tennis balls, as we don't have that many isolated places in Belgium. If I don't like the bat I can always sale it for the purchase price to a friend who really really wants to have a bat to play in the park, beach as well using tennisballs.

Using tennis balls will mostlikely not affect the piece of wood. The idea behind this cheap bat is to have a back up one to play and especially practice our batting technique during the next coming weeks. Owing to exams I didn't play one game or participated one training this month. My first appearance at the club will be beginning of June. And as it is my first season I reckon additional practice never hurts

As mentioned before I will be touting with the club in the UK in August, so might pick up a decent bat then.
