Meaker and Jordan both went to schools in Surrey or South London. They've been England qualified since they joined the county.

Then there is the players who might finally do something worth while, chief amoung these are Lumb and Ervine, both look really good when they are playing well but are more infuriating than Ian Bell. Am waiting for one of them to actually have a good season but it's probably not going to happen.

Yeh i like the look of Riazuddin, kinda reminds me of a Mark Ealham type player...

Bit harsh on Sean Ervine what about the season he took us to glory in the C&G final with hundreds in semi and Final!! What a glorious day out at Lords!!

Indeed and the only thing interesting about Meaker aside from bowling quick in the nets (once) is that his South African.

Yeah it was a great day and I shall always love him for it, but after seeing him score two brilliant hundreds in the semi-final and final he has been a pretty big dissapointmnent ever since, with the occasional exception like his 90 odd against Durham last year to give us our most important win all season.

Ervine's been a massive disappointment just about throughout his Hampshire career.

I was thinking when he first upped sticks and left Zimbabwe for some decent-quality cricket that he was going to be one hell of a good batsman, quite possibly a ODI- and Test-standard one - and was going to play plenty for either Australia or England.

    Just hasn't happened.

Be interesting to see how Joe "Nephew of Mike" Gatting gets on down at Sussex.

His old man Steve used to play for The Arsenal too.

    - As featured in The Independent.

"as much a news event as an actual footballer, a worthy stop-start centre forward, but an all-time hyper-galactico when it comes to doing funny things with cars and hats, a player whose signing proves once again that the Premier League is still undoubtedly the best in the world when it comes to doing things with cars and hats."

He got a hundred on his debut in Abu Dhabi and 150 on his FC debut today. The opposition - Abu Dhabi Bakeries South-Western Division (or someone like that) and Cambridge UCCE respectively - weren't up to much though!

Unduly harsh on the staunch bakers of south-west Abu Dhabi to confuse them with Surrey, one feels.

Jaik Mickleburgh at Essex I fancy to have make an impression this season. I like what I've seen of Ben Brown, saw him keep for England Under 19's and he was mightily impressive.

Umm, no. He's quick. In games he's quick.

His catch off the inside edge was almost unbelievable.

Apparently he is able to send them down at 95mph but whenever Iíve seen him for Surrey/England U19ís, 85mph is about as good as it gets. Which is of course is a lively pace especially for a kid but not as threatening as it has been reported.

First dibs on Chris Woakes before the bandwagon takes him. Quality nut to pin Langer today with the second new ball: 22-4-80-3 is a top return on the M5 at Taunton, too.

You seen him timed in a game?
The speed at which a fielding team gets through the innings is overrated.
