I can understand the omission of Ponting and Johnson, and both indeed deserve a break.

But M Hussey? He has hardly done anything to "deserve" a rest in the last few months, right? Or is it a euphemism for dropped??

Good to see Bing back. I really hope he makes it to the Ashes squad ahead of much inferior bowlers like McDonald, and House.

Brett Lee is looking ripped in that photo in howard's link. I think that squad is fair enough, contained no real surprises and is similar to what they have picked already.

Booked the tickets yesterday so it's all good

Shame that Ponting isnt coming as the locals absolutely love him - rated as the best with Tendy and wayyyyyyy above all others

Guy should really come for the endorsement potential alone

Don't know, but apparently M Hussey has played more days of cricket over the last year than any other player.

I agree. His nearest competition is from MSD who played more ODI matches than him, but fewer test matches.

Fair to say we're treating these matches really seriously given the only top liners being left in ate those returning from injury or suspension, plus Clarke and Haddin.

Fair enough, given the importance of these matches vs the Ashes. .

Wish Symonds would rip his tear his bicep off during a Friday night weights session at the Normanby.

I reckon Symonds would be pissed off at being picked in this. All summer he's been overlooked, and then when he finally gets picked, his selection coincides with the IPL, and thus he'll be denied playing about half of his team's IPL matches and therefore about $US700 000

    May well be right there.

But, unlike with the test side, if Symonds is mentally and physically fit, he's surely a must for any Aussie LO team.

Looks like a good squad, the only potential problem being if Lee isn't fit, who do they bring in? Also, they either have to play Hopes in the top seven or rely on Symonds/Clarke/Dussey for 10 overs.

This series might well be an interesting shoot-out for who gets the reserve batting spot in the Ashes, and also whether Lee gets to go. But probably more relevantly, somehow Aus are going to have to settle on a T20 squad out of this and the SA series... and it seems like an awful lot of players have been used.

The rumours of a split in the Aussie team are clearly worse than I thought.
