actually this is an interesting question.

For example if I am the organizer of a tournament in Sharjah, or Singapore or something like that, I might feel I will have more exciting matches if I called both Austrailia and Austrailia A, or better still Austrailians might not want to play (as they are picky about ODI tourneys) or they are busy in a series, so I might want to call an unofficial team of Austrailia called Austrailia A. ICC cannot do anything about that.

The only thing is that the matches with Austrailia A will not be called international matches, but who cares.

I wish some organizers do that. Will be interesting.

Ashes Tour of either 94/95 or 90/91

I would have either been 5 or 9, so I can't remember too well. One-Day series between Australia, Australia A, England and Zimbabwe.

Guess who the finals were between?

It was 94/95, and yes, Australia and Australia A played off in the finals - Damien Martyn captained Australia A.

Jeez, you are only what, 18 years old??

You lucky bastard.

Hmm this thread sounds like someone just trying to brag about how awesome the aussies are....

Yes they are awesome, Australia A are excellent, but it would be madness for them to get test status... sheesh

IMO Australia 'A' would not have the bowling to compete at anywhere near the level of the senior team.

Yeah it's not right they may be good enough but it's just not going to happen.
I don't think they would be good enough in all honesty - look at the side they'd put out, and they wouldn't be that hot.

I would say no simply as it just makes it easy to test players and develop them before giving them a place on the Full team. Whereas any other team pays a heavy price if a selection doesn't pay off.

Plus the nemous other reasons already mentioned etc

i agree that the proposition is rediculas - every team goes through phases where they are superior, the previous team was the west indies, in a few years australia will go through a rebuilding phase - brought about by the selectors not being willing to play any young players - and we will not be as strong for a period

HOWEVER marc said that they would not be good enough atm, well i think that he is wrong there

Hussey
Maher/blewett
Katich
Clarke
Perren?
Watson/symonds
Haddin/campbell
Hauritz / macgill
Noffke
Clark
bracken

You could add Andy Bichel and Brad Williams in that pace attack - Australia will not persist with the 5 specialist bowlers they used in the West Indies........
How about......

Hussey
Maher
Katich
Clarke
Hodge
Symonds
Campbell
Bichel
Noffke
Williams
MacGill

12th Bracken

That side would beat a few test nations on thier day I reckon....

no way am i bragging about the aussies..:D

just a suggestion to liven things up..

btw...the series mentioned above , what was the status of the matches between eng/zim/aus against aus A ?

it really isnt a bad idea..( at the limited overs level.ie.) ...look at the recent hockey series played in aus featuring aus aus A ind and pak....pak lost both matches against aus A, and even aus lost 1 match to them( aus A ie)..( not implying that cricket and hockey are comparable....only wanted to rub it in if any pakistanis are reading this!   )

Nahh they would be good enough they have a 90% winning record against touring teams.

remember they totaly smashed England and Sri Lanka in most of the matches they played last year.

If they lost any of them at all then it would have only been 1 match.

A couple of warm up One Day games when the touring side rest key players to give fringe players an opportunity are a completely different kettle of fish to a Test series.

And yes, that A side would beat Zim and Ban, but a lot of other sides they would not.

Not many English Players were rested at all a few missed with injury.

That should never be an excuse any way England and especialy Sri lanka were not even compeditive.

I dont know what can be made of FC statistics but the Australian A squad have better FC & OD avrages than England and quite alot of other teams.

On paper they match up fairly well.

its ok marc we all know that Aust A would beat england on a regular basis :P

in Australia Australia A would maintain an excellent reccord, they would not be as good away from home but would probably be very competitive in England, RSA, WI and NZ, sub continent would be harder but it would be good experience for them
