“The squad contains some players who have had a little taste of first-class cricket in Australia and will provide those players and others with further experience.”

Commenting on the preliminary squad for the 2010 ICC Under-19 World Cup, NYSP Chair Geoff Tamblyn said: “Following the Cricket Australia National Under-17 and Under-19 Championships, recent talent camps at the Centre of Excellence and also taking into consideration the premier grade performances of each player, the Youth Selection Panel have selected a preliminary squad of 31 players for the 2010 ICC Under-19 World Cup.

“This group is an exceptionally talented squad who will further develop over next 12 months.

“I’m sure all the players are looking forward to honing their skills and being part of this preliminary squad.

“The squad contains some players who have tasted state cricket in Australia, one of the strongest domestic competitions in the world.

“New South Wales fast bowler Josh Hazlewood is again in the squad, following his experience of playing in last year’s ICC Under-19 World Cup in Malaysia, whilst Kane Richardson toured with the Australian Under-19 Team to Pakistan in 2007.”

We've had a rash of sons of test cricketers represent Aus recently, well 2 anyway which is a lot considering I can't remember the last previous to them. (Sean Marsh and Ben Laughlin if yus didn't know).
And here in the u19 squad is 2 more (Mitchel Marsh and Alistair Mcdermott) plus also Tazelaar I'm presuming is the son of long serving Qld left-arm paceman Dirk.

I here that Mitchell Marsh might play footy instead though.

cheers

17yo, plays for Sutherland. Not a huge scorer in grade but averages around 30 IIRC. Has a penchant for scoring in big games (made twin 60's in his first 2nd XI game, played very well for NSW at the u19 carnival). Will play for NSW one day, maybe even Australia, is a star.

Talk about an ass whopping

http://ls.cricket.com.au/HomeFullSco...99_2418_2.html

I think there is a massive difference in quality of batting between these two sides.

2 players got 150 in an U19 ODI match? One of the two hit 6 sixes in his knock of 160. If they play in huge grounds that are used for international matches, thats an awesome effort.

Indian fans in "overplaying underage win" shocker.

Maybe they'll become top level cricketers one day....

oh wait, they won't, because you have the worst first class system in the world this side of the Faroe Islands.

What the feck are we supposed to do on this thread then? Post the announced squads and not comment on the actual matches?

It wasn't us who started the thread(thereby attaching importance to the series). And as far as not becoming top level cricketer goes..we have never had problems producing batsmen, did we?

Here is what the Aus U-19 keeper had to say after today's match..

Quote:
Watching from behind the stumps, Triffitt gave high praise to the way the Indian top-order went about their batting.

"It was awesome to see the Indians batting today and going so hard at us and bat so well," the teenager said.

"They play so differently to us, they've got different strengths and they utilised the short boundary so well and we probably didn't bowl quite as well as we would have liked," he said.
