    CW Ranks the Batsmen

Two years ago, we went about compiling rankings of the 25 greatest batsmen and the 25 greatest bowlers in the history of cricket. Given that we have several new members and forum activity has increased significantly (as evident in the turnout for the post-WWII selection threads), the time is ripe to give it another shot. Essentially, we'll start at #1 and work our way down using a preferential voting system: each voter provides primary (2) and secondary (1) selections from the pool of remaining candidates and the highest-tallied batsman at the end of the two-day voting period gets in.

One change that I'd like to make is to remove the restriction of having a proven record in test cricket. Let's rank the best batsmen (not test batsmen), period - it's up to you to decide how much importance should be given to performance in test cricket - so that we can give serious consideration to the likes of WG Grace, Barry Richards and Vijay Merchant. Please resist the temptation to check out the old version. Discussion is highly encouraged, but please do not start posting articles or pollute the thread with overdone topics.

Wondering who'll be in first - Archie for the exclusion of Clem Hill, or Tharmi for the exclusion of the entire nation of Sri Lanka.

    first: Bradman
    second: Sobers

Just asking, why do we have to limit ourselves to that list?

Yeah it should be a frame of reference but not what we have to vote from.

Agree with this - if we're picking all batsmen through cricket history then we don't really need a preliminary pool. Let's make it a fully open selection.

Good point - just got rid of the list, what a waste of time.

Please do it by rank, not votes - just for convenience.

    Votes.

Would imagine everyone placed their first preference on top.

    1. Donald Bradman (because...)
    2. Viv Richards (because besides being a top 5 test batsman of all time he is also the greatest ODI batsman ever)

Vote for #2 batsman of all-time

I'll go ahead and assume that Bradman will take this one, if that's alright with you guys.

    1. Don Bradman

The vote for the #2 batsman of all-time begins now.
