Gilchrist in ODIs, Sehwag in tests.

So I can't vote.

Gilly coz he is also a good keeper. As batsmen alone, Sehwag in Tests... Not much to seperate in ODIs.

Right now, Sehwag's the better ODI opener. He's at his peak. Over their careers I guess Gilly is better.

Sehwag for some reason does get crimnally underrated, to me he is the best test opener of the past 2 decades.

Gilchrist, how many World Cups has Sehwag set his side up for victory in.

I came in expecting a lot of defensive posts, and I am not disappointed.

I do not know why WC finals should decide who is better between players who have played 383 and 370 international matches each.

Gilchrist has played three World Cup finals and Sehwag just one. A function of the strength of the sides they represent I suppose.

So if you want to compare Sehwag's solitary WC finals with anyone, how do you do it ? Compare with Gilchrists's first WC Finals ?
  • Sehwag (2003) 82 in 81 balls, facing a mammoth 359 with wickets falling all around him and against Australia sensing victory from the first over..
  • Gilchrist (1999) 54 in 36 deliveries facing a target of 132 in 50 overs against Pakistan down in the dumps thanks to their own miserable batting. !!

Frankly even this does not show Sehwag is better but just making the pointlessness of that criteria.

To me Sehwag is much better in Tests and they are more or less even in odi's. Maybe Gilchrist could be slightly ahead in the limited version. That may change with how Sehwag is batting in odi's now.

That puts Sehwag ahead for me. I give much more weightage to Tests and the difference in odi's is not significant if any.

Of course if you add Gilchrist's keeping he goes ahead

Sehwag is a better test batsman than Gilchrist. So on pure batting, Sehwag>Gilchrist.

In ODIs, Gilchrist>Sehwag.

If total value of players is compared, Gilchrist is easily ahead because he can also keep.

Against spin, Sehwag >>> Gilchrist. Against short pitch stuff Gilchrist >>> Sehwag. Both have some holes in their technique.
Pure destructiveness, probably the two are equals. Overall, I will go for Sehwag as I like right handers much more than left handers.

I just voted on terms of batting, which is Sehwag every day of the week. Gilchrists wicketkeeping is what makes him so legendary, many batsman are superior to him, just no wicketkeepers (to his level anyway).
