All Time India XI

Guys I need to work on this, I am not exactly sure who to pick but here they are:

Tests:

Sunil Gavaskar
Dilip Vengsarkar
Rahul Dravid
Sachin Tendulkar
M Azharuddin
N Kapil Dev
Ms Dhoni
Zaheer Khan (not sure)
Anil Kumble
Javagal Srinath (not sure)
Venkatesh Prasad (not sure)

^ the problem is India has had very few world class bowlers in the past, now guys like Ishant sharma have come up but they are way too young to be included in this list

ODI's

S Ganguly
Sachin Tendulkar
Rahul Dravid
M Azharuddin
Yuvraj Singh
N Kapil Dev
MS Dhoni
Irfan Pathan
Anil Kumble
Javagal Srinath
Zaheer Khan

If you pick Dev at 6, you pick three spinners imo.

Also Mercent or Shewag to open. And Hazare in the middle order ahead of Azhar. ODIs meh, a T20 All Time side would be more interesting.

Also can't remember his name, but there was a fast bowler from the 1930s that was easierly India best seamer.

As Tharmi said, Hazare ahead of Azhar for me. I'd have Mankad in as second opener and fifth bowler, and Engineer ahead of Dhoni.

Gavaskar
Mankad
Dravid
Tendulkar
Hazare
Azharuddin/Sixth batsman whose name eludes me
Kapil Dev
Engineer+
Kumble
Srinath
Bedi

Indian Test XI (yes, it's more or less the same team I posted last time)
  • Gavaskar
  • Sehwag
  • Dravid
  • Tendulkar
  • Azharuddin
  • Farrokh Engineer (WK)
  • Kapil Dev (RMF)
  • Kumble (LBG)
  • Bedi (SLA)
  • Amar Singh (RFM?)
  • Mohammed Nissar (RFM?)
India's all-time ODI XI is still not complete, so that will take a few more years. We'll keep seeing more new names added each season.

Sunil Gavaskar
Virender Sehwag
Rahul Dravid
Sachin Tendulkar
Vijay Hazare
Vinoo Mankad/VVS Laxman
Kapil Dev
Farookh Engineer +
Amar Singh
Anil Kumble/Bhagawath Chandrasekhar (home/away)
Javagal Srinath/Mohammad Nissar

Strong batting, good bowling options. Even the #10 has a Test century

Disappointed at the lack of Laxman love in this thread, tbh. Laxman > M.Amarnath, Azharuddin.

CBF with an alltime ODI team. Totally different rates of scoring in the 80s screws it up. My XI would be heavily stacked with players from the 90s and 00s.

Yes, more or less this team for ODIs...Probably might have Dhoni come at no. 6 though, pushing Kapil to 7...Same with Srinath and Kumble, Kumble was no good in batting in ODIs...There are too many good candidates for captaincy - Ganguly, Dhoni, Kapil etc...Will probably have Ganguly captaining, although that decision might change in favor of Dhoni after the next WC or even before that...

That's a very weak all-time XI in comparison to some others, and will get thrashed. Three of these players are liabilities on the field, two haven't yet found their feet and a few big names are missing. Moreover, a lot of players before the late 1990s have been left out- there's no Sidhu, no Binny, no Amarnath, no Sehwag, no Jadeja. The way things are going, we're seeing more and more players added to the Indian all-time XI, especially Sehwag or Gambhir or both.
