Pfft....Amateurs. No AA? No McLean? No DeGroot? They should try signing some decent players for a change.......;)

Your current signature Rich - if he's batting at 7 or 8 in CC, he's not likely to be good enough to bat higher than that at Test level.

M Vaughan, M Trescothick, M Butcher, N Hussain, R Key, A Flintoff, G Jones, A Giles, Jonhson/Hoggard/Harmison, D Gough, J Anderson - No Worries :D

Actually the main reason I put that in was I've been highly impresed by the way he has followed a great keeper in Nixon and scored the second highest amount of runs in D1 from as low as 7/8 when to be honest the Kent team have under perfromed and quite offten been dismissed for below avgerage scores.

Yeah I agree his should wait his turn and IMO Read should and will get the call when Stewy steps down (or pushed) but this guy has fantatic talent and ablity and he will certianly be one to watch out for..... and it can't hurt to score 84 and 108* vs the England captain 8D

Tamara, I think we both know that the last time Harris played a good hand with the bat was probably back about a year & a half ago in the VB Series in the 1st match at the MCG ..he batted very well with Vettori and in the end it turned out to be a match winning partnership. But since then he's done nothing & even before the VB Series last year he was very inconsistent.

Im not saying that his whole career has been comical, but I was just suggesting that with his form over the last 2 years..getting to 50 in a club match was a pretty good effort for him.

And why has the topic of 'NZ Domestic' suddenly turned into the make-up of the English batting order?

I realise that Harris should have played his last match about a year ago however I don't think you should be too harsh as he has been great for NZ. He has been one of the best guys NZ has had however his last couple of years have let his stats down.

Is he actually qualified for England then?

I thought he was in the process of (like Pietersen - next year!)

fair enough - as an ex member I'd like to wish you good luck, but from your profile you'll have a couple of years to go b4 reaching recruiting age (or am I out of date??)

I would like to see McIntosh over there instead of Horne in India.

In NZ they need to breed players.. They NEED to replace Harris, Cairns, Sinclair anyway.

Harris = Hitchcock?
Cairns = Oram?
Sinclair = Styris?

However I would like to see some 'real' batsmen come to the fore rather than all these 'all rounders' - I think the Test batting ratings reflect the shortage in this area.
:(

I agree, I don't think we can really continue playing batting all rounders like Styris, Harris, Oram etc because we're barely hanging on.

The selectors need to wake up & start introducing specialist batsmen because at international level I don't think you can expect 3 or 4 all-rounders to hold a middle order together.

I think Jacob Oram really is starting to show his worth though...his bowling has come along greatly and I think he can still work on his batting.

You were part of the police???? I have dreamed about it since i was about 12...

There is no age restriction however they prefer you over 21 in NZ however they have just taken a 17 year old in.. I am got to uni first though.

Back to the cricket anyway.... NZ need to bring a couple of batters in.. we have good alrounders and good pace bowlers..

Why would he need to? Stewart's batted at 7 recently, and I can't see Read (or Foster or whoever) batting any higher than that.

See poll.

I always felt NZ had plenty of allrounders (most of them bits and pieces ones), and the odd bowler, but not manyh batsmen. I guess Fleming's alright and Richardson has done brilliantly really but who else is there?

Well we've got Astle, but he only seems to play well at home..likewise with McMillan.

Yet, NZ are more successful away from home so its bizarre.

But I disagree that NZ should shelve out youth players like other countries have done. I think they should introduce 2 or 3 players max in the next 8 months & then let it build from there.

NZ are close to becoming a very good test side, but we'll continue to miss the jump to being a 'great' test team if the selectors continue to make selections that just don't make sense.

I think NZ are getting past the period where we had players like Gavin Larsen, Dipak Patel, Nathan Astle, Shane Thomson etc who could bat and bowl tidy spells of bowling...or bits and pieces players as its often called.

I think you'll find that the recent crop of all-rounders in NZ are far better than just bits in pieces players..Kyle Mills, Jacob Oram & Tama Canning all bowl above medium fast & can all bat middle order for NZ in the future.

So I think NZ have got out of that faze.

Scott Styris over the last 12 months or so has really improved as a batsman and has a Test average of nearly 50, and a century on Test debut. Whilst I know this doesnt proves much, he is improved with the bat when I first saw him. And then there was that 141 he made against Sri Lanka in the World Cup.

Scott Styris has improved alot..but he's lacked consistency.
He had a great test series against Sri Lanka but didn't really make any contribution in the ODI Tri-Series.

I just don't think he's a #4 or #5 batsman...probably #6 or #7 and this is why im constantly crying out for a couple of specialist batsmen.
