Jumping the Shark Draft

Huh?

It has already been determined that one voter cannot alone force a player onto the banned list. In fact we don't know how many votes a player needs to make the list (it could be that some with 1 vote are on the list or it could be that a player needs a minimum of 3 votes to be on the list).

So yeah, I don't see people talk about Sangakkara very much on CW and he's a very good player, unlucky to have played in the shadow of Gilchrist (if he played first then he'd be considered an all time great and probably one of the top two ever).
In all the drafts we done so far he gets picked quite earlier, though I have picked him earlier most of the time. Though I can see a lot of people miss him off the list as they go for specialist.

We will see, can't predict things here atm.

Yeah the Laker/Grimmett controversy has basically given everyone a licence to pick top class players I think.

I think the likes of Trueman was the big one for mine. I can understand the Laker/Grimmett from stats and era POV. But Trueman I have no idea, one of top 10 bowlers of all time for mine. Though he wasn't on my list it has to be said.

Well the thing is that there are a LOT of all time great quicks who are very difficult to separate, especially if they were before your time. Yet there really aren't too many spinners that are that good statistically, even if they were integral parts of a team.

The best spinner available before the banned rounds is almost certainly Lance Gibbs, followed by Qadir, Verity, Bedi, Underwood and Lock (who are all IMO inseperable really).

Given the class difference between Warne, Murali, O'Reilly, Grimmett, Benaud, Laker and the rest (Kumble, Gibbs, Qadir etc...) it's kinda easy to see that the best spinners really stand out, while the best quicks are lost among eras of greats.

Based on Kallis still being available, I'll actually go for Ian Botham rather than Imran.
Accepted. Surprisingly!

Sorry, I'll reply one at a time as I don't have a pen, and can't do nice formatting with my iPhone. Maybe someone can collate them and update the code bit when I'm done?

Yet Donald and Akram get picked. :@

I know, also three was always going to be round where everyone would test the waters with fringe banned players as there not as many top line players that are clearly not going to be banned.

Ridiculous. No way Sangakkara was a better player than Chappell, Weekes or Barrington.

Survey says: Yes he was. As a keeper-batsman of the highest order, he's a rarer commodity than a top drawer middle order batsmen. And as any economics professor will tell you scarcity equals value.

True, and I rate Sanga, but there's no way that batsmen of such high quality should be missing out on being picked.

Oh well, I did have a contingency plan in case he was. More annoyed that all three of those all time great batsmen got through than missing my pick.
