The Official World Cup qualifiers schedule is out and By God is it huge!!.:laugh:

There will be two groupd of six from whence 4 will qualify for the Super 8s (buggers never learn do they?) followed by a semifinal, playoffs and the Finals

Actually, that's a hell of a lot better than the final two World Cup spots being settled in one play-off game, and also recognises that the two groups might be uneven so it's unfair that the top three in each group go straight to the WC.

And there's rest days in there, too. Top work. Much better than the 2011 format, so the ICC can do things right when they don't have to think about TV rights.

Not like you to complain about Associates getting matches, either.

Still, the Super 8 stage looks like it will involve carried over points, so a team could get hurt, or benefit from beating or losing to the wrong opposition.

Comfortable qualification for the Big Four, imo (Ireland, Scotland, Kenya, Netherlands). Due to the format, one bad result won't hurt them and they are too far ahead of the rest to be seriously challenged over the whole thing.

Afghanistan really the dark horse, think this tournament is a little too soon for them to qualify but they might snatch one of the two remaining ODI places.

Yeah, I think this is a good thing.

The World Cup itself is about the event and the ability to rise to the occasion as much as it's about finding the best team, but I think it's pretty important we get the right teams in there and don't allow an upset or two to change the whole dynamic of it.

Jesus, talk about a big event. That's as big as the WC itself. I like it though - it doesn't allow for a single upset to change everything. The teams that peform consistantly will make it. Consistancy is the #1 thing you want in a side.

Rest days are nice tough, and glad to see that they aren't completely incompetent when they can actually only think about the cricket.

How many sides make the WC? Top six? To me, that might be too many, but I can live with it.

ICC wanted to limit the number of associates, so decided to make an absolutely moronic format for the main event. Now we get a never-ending, pointless group stage and then a frantic knock-out week.
