You'll Never Walk Alone
Bollinger 12th man.

May just take back everything I've said in this thread. :(

EDIT: Seriously, just when you think the selectors are progressing. McDonald as your frontline bowler. Hilfenhaus aswell.

If the deck is not absolutely hooping I'll be fuming.

For goodness sake.

Even if it is hooping - more reason to get Dougie in there!

Nice to see, unfortunatly the weather gods are smiling on a rain draw at the moment.. I'm hoping Johannsburg will do it's usual thing though, isolated heavy PM thundershowers, with good drainage should mean we don't lose too much cricket

Yeah, I hope we lose the series 3-nil now. Dumbest **** I've ever seen (since White as a specialist spinner, anyway).
You're completetely ignoring the fact that MacDonald's bowling is suited to SA's conditions, his batting adds depth, McGain is sick, wicket has a history of helping seamers, rain is forecast, etc etc etc etc etc

Given current resources and conditions, this is clearly the best team Oz could select and it would not surprise me at all if they won convincingly

Stop joking mate. As if Bollinger is 12th man.

Yeah, keeping things in perspective, it's still a good line-up and one that can win Test Matches.

However, I cannot think of a single reason why Bollinger shouldn't play.

Obviously he's not got enough hair, even Warne had to get advanced hair studios to keep his spot in the team.

Besides the fact that he was clearly outbowled by others in the warm up game, neither can I

I could have almost copped McDonald playing as a frontline bowler ahead of McGain and Hilfenhaus. Almost. But not only is he playing as a frontline bowler ahead of Bollinger (WTF!)... Hilfenhaus is as well.

Despite the fact that McDonald is under-rated on this forum, I agree that this is complete and utter madness.

I can't understand why if you're having 4 seamers, you wouldn't just pick your four best seamers. Especially since one of them (Johnson) is a capable No. 8 batsman. I must be missing something though, so I'd be genuinely glad if someone can explain to me the logic, because this is obviously a policy of Aus as they picked Watson earlier in the season in the same position.

You're wrong. It's so negative it's ridiculous. We need to win, not draw. Picking 3 specialist bowlers and 2 part timers when we've failed to consistently bowl SA out is as close as you can get to walking up to Smith at the toss and saying "We don't think we can bat well enough, we're here not to lose, if we at all can. Oh, and Smithy, here's the initiative, on this ****ing dinner plate".

Since when has MacDonald been a part-timer?

He's not a part-timer for Victoria

He wasnt used as a part-timer for Oz in his only test

You guys seem to forget that it's Bollinger you're crying about not Glenn McGrath

And you're speaking of McDonald as if he's Keith Miller. You think he's a better bowler than Bollinger? Confirms a few things for me, frankly.

McDonald has bowled 178 overs in 13 innings for Vics, putting him closer to the front-liners (210-260 in 12-16) than the part-timers (46 in 5), but not quite up there with them.
