Daring to dream quietly here, I've been incredibly critical of SA in the last few days and I will see this as a bit of a get out of jail if we can do it. If we manage to bat all day though we will surely be somewhere close to winning the game.. Cue a crippled Smith to hit the winning runs of Johnson, we can but dream.
"A bit of a get out of jail" ????
Nice understatement there.

Thank God Ponting bowled Katich. Now maybe Glen Mitchell and Jim Maxwell from ABC radio can stop ****ing well banging on about it everytime an opposition team puts on a partnership of more than 45.

Kallis - you gun.

The big man needs a score after a somewhat disappointing time of it with the bat this Summer.

Great stuff from Kallis and de Villiers. Bit frustrating having such a memorable series win within our grasp and not being able to drive it home but at least it's exposing our selection mistakes which can only be a good thing. Negative reinforcement ftw. Still, not too worried, 7 wickets in 90 overs shouldn't be too hard (famous last words?).
Nah. I mean, a top-shelf team like SA aren't going to just pack it in, always going to be some resistance (especially against such an inexperienced bowling line-up). Especially from SA's most in-form batsman and their grittiest. Too good to just let it go. Good test for the bowling line-up, every Test wicket is hard, boys.

So AWTA. Most over-hyped bowler ever since he took 6-fer against Zim.

Surely McGain has to come in for the next match? Ronald has done more with the ball than Hilfy, but can we come at him as first change? Especially with Mitch and Siddle maybe already carrying niggles?

Could be a much more useful partnership breaker if he learned how to utilise his googly. Neither batsman was picking it at first yesterday. Maybe it's a bit much to expect a part-time chinaman to possess several variations on top of leg-spinning acumen, but still. I think he's quite decent. Something new.

Every left-arm wristie is described in the same way, though. Specialists, if they even make it to FC cricket, have never made much of a go at it so someone bowlign it part-time, unless they land a flukey one, have no chance. Left-arm wrist-spin has just proven too tough to be consistently successful. If the trend of more left-hand batsmen about the place continues, however.......

Was referring to Tests and FC more than ODI where, granted, Hogg was very very good for years. His Test and FC records are pretty average, though. Was only really picked for WA because he could bat too.

Haha it's so true. Still trying to figure out why the hell the allow Mike Coward behind the microphone, he comfortably the worst "expert" commentator I've ever heard on the ABC.

Hear hear. Not only is he poor, the fact he never shuts up compounds this direness.

It's pretty funny though. Aus have dominated 10 sessions of a test match, and one fighting partnership (only possible because of a dropped catch) has some posters talking like SA are a shoe in. Obviously it's not over, but they're IMO 2 wickets away from not standing a chance (Boucher isn't in good enough form to save this game).

The bowlers will be better for a bit of rest, and the new ball will wrap things up.

Hey, it's an option for when all else is failing and the new ball is due in five overs. You could just as well write a detailed assessment of why Paul Collingwood's bowling will never be a success at test level. Could do much worse than Katman IMO. Especially on turning tracks on India when they couldn't buy a wicket.

Well, tbh, not that emotionally invested in the argument but surely Paul Collingwood is a far better bowler than Kat? A bit under-rated, for mine.
