In his time Viv was only player of his type. He was unique, we can put very few in his category.

Greatbach made things easier for players like Sachin, Jayasuriya, Kaluwitharana, Sohail, Anwar etc [ WC 1992 + era ]

In my opinion, Viv is better ODI bat than SRT!
You forgot abour Zaheer Abbas. He was equally good as far as strike rate is concerned. Perhaps Zaheer had better.

Seeing batsmen from 1992 WC to 1996 WC (who has atleaset 400+ runs), Mark Greatbatch only has a mediocre SR of 65 with an average of 25.4. Pretty crappy record. In that era there were batsmen like Kaluwitharana (SR 89), Tendulkar (84), Carins (83), Healy (83), Ijaz (83), Ranatunga, Wasim and Border (82) and De Silva (81). Source

Jayasuriya, even before experimentation had a SR of 76, Saying Greatbatch has paved the way for attacking openers is pure rubbish, becasue he is was a sail with his SR.
