Pak may be able to hold him off in the NZ conditions provided Riaz, Gul are supported by a young gun.

To be fair, I'm not sure he's actually putting down the Pakistan team in terms of strength there, think you may be reading more into it than is meant.

Does sound like a good idea. Akhtar hasn't been bowling badly since his return. I think it was he himself who backed out of playing test matches to concentrate only on the ODIs.

Shoaib Akhtar should only be playing T20's and ODI's. He is clearly not fit enough for test cricket. I am not sure Pakistan need him either with all the quality fast bowlers they have at their disposal.

quality fast bowlers??? You mean people like Sami??? He has only one quality. Bowling at 150 km/hr and getting smashed to the boundary at 300 km/hr

Pakistan have plenty of options : Umar Gul, Mohammad Irfan, Tanvir Ahmed, Wahab Riaz, Mohammad Talha among others.

most of them are decent but not top quality the two high class ones have flushed their careers down the hole.

Yes, that is true. I would rather play one of them than Shoaib Akhtar, though.

yeah but none of them are penetrative enough. But yes there seem to be some options going around.

There is this player whose name I cannot recall; he bowled a devastating spell in an U 19 India vs Pakistan match.

Anwar Ali.He's on the fringes but never seems to have a breakthrough season.

Yeah, Anwar Ali. Some of the deliveries he bowled were just top class; reminiscent of a young Waqar Younis.

what pakistan need to do is uncover another amir from somewhere.

that may sound like a blase statement but with the absence of a worthwhile domestic structure they need to employ whatever methods they can to uncover great talents - its really painful to see someone like sami get the nod, or a consistently mediocre performer like gul get chosen when theres a good chance there are better more worthwhile and deserving prospects about.
