When was the last time WI players held the top spot

for batting in ODI and Test cricket ?

and playing in the same team, but still ranked so low ?

Dunno. Maybe Lara was number one when they were mud but it'd be a pretty rare event you'd think

Statistically, Chris Gayle and Shivnarine Chanderpaul have been more or less the 2 best batsmen in ODIs since the World Cup.

Lara was top of both in 96 and Richards on top of both in 88.

Doubt anyone else have managed it.
