Best of the non test playing countries XI

Migara

Cricketer Of The Year
Let's make a XI from non-test playing countries.

Inclusion criteria
1. Any player from current BAN or ZIM sides
2. Any player from non-test playing countries
3. Any player from a current test country who plyed before gaining test status.

Exclusion criteria
1. Any player who has played test cricket
2. Any player who played FCC in a test country but could not make the side of that country.
3. Irish and Dutch players are excepted from 2, they can be included.

My XI would be

1. Nial O'Brien (IRE)
2. Shariar Nafees (BAN)
3. Steve Tikolo (KEN) (c)
4. Mahadevan Sathasivam (Cey)
5. Ryan ten Doshcate (NED)
6. Shakib Al Hasan (BAN)
7. Tatenda Taibu (ZIM) (wk)
8. Mashrafe Mortaza (BAN)
9. Elton Chigambura (ZIM)
10. Boyd Rankin (IRE)
11. Raymond Price (ZIM)

Ed Joyce misses out as he has played for England, It's very tough on Thomas Odoyo to miss this XI too. But on best form Ryan Doschcate edges him out.

You would wonder who is Sathasivam, he's a player who walks in to all time Sri Lankan XI. He is probably the best non test batsman ever. FC de Saram also a very well known test class player who could not play in a test, because he played for Ceylon.

Other than Sathasivam, all are current day players. Replace him with Ed Joyce, and this side will give a run for their money for any test side.

Pretty sure several of those guys have played tests... Whether they should be classed as tests or not is a separate question.

Ed Joyce hasn't played tests for England, only ODIs. You don't explicitly state that playing ODIs for another country disqualifies him but i suppose you meant it.

Eoin Morgan should probably be in the side. I'd have him ahead of Mahadevan Sathasivam, but even if he's ahead of Niall O'Brien it's hardly an issue. He's easily our best current batsman.

Do you think Morgan is better than some one like Arjuna Ranatunga or Hashan Tillekaratne? Sathasivam is regarded only second to De Silva and Sangakkara, and was regrded as SL's best batsman before Aravinda de Silva stormed in to the scene.

No, but Morgan's 22.

If Bangladesh and Zimbabwe were not Test nations:

Sibanda
Porterfield
Tikolo
Morgan if not counted for England, else Obanda
+O'Brien N
Shakib
ten Doeschate
Rasel
Rainsford
Mortaza
Ongondo

else

Porterfield
Watson
Tikolo
Obanda
ten Doeschate
Olwenyi (Morgan)
+N O'Brien
Varaiya
Arshad Ali
Ongondo
Rankin

Andre Botha would have been in but for blatant Saffieness. Ten Doeschate escapes this on account of being awesome.

I think he intends it to be an all-time XI buddy as Mahadevan Sathasivam has been dead for over 30 years.
It just makes it a dud comparison is all.

I wouldn't find a place for Sathasivam because i don't like trying to compare someone i've never even seen any footage of and who played a radically different game to the others in the team. But as i said above, if others wish to there's no way Niall O'Brien's a better specialist batsman than Morgan anyway so he should be in at the top (neither are openers).

If it is an all time XI, then the side would be stacked with players from India and Pakistan prior to introduction. Can't think of any off the top of my head, but I'm sure most where better then the guys on the list apart from maybe Tilkolo, RTD and Sathasivam. Also there is few South Africans from the 80s that would make it as well. ;)

If you mean Craig Wright, Odoyo stacks up as the better batsman
avgs 25 as opposed to 16 in ODIs, has scored a century and 6 50s with a top score of 111* compared to a top score of 37.

FC record, Wright has a better avg - 31 compared to 29, but again, Odoyo has 2 hundreds and 8 50s compared to 2 50s for Wright
