The countering of the prevalence of LH batsmen

Midwinter

State Captain
After reading a newspaper article the other day, (P.Roebuck in the Melbourne Age) and watching the first days play of the Oz vs SA second test it appears quite obvious that the best way to overcome the LH players in the opposition team is for the RH bowlers to bowl around the wicket to them.

At the top level the LH batsmebn have an advantage over the RH bowlers due to making them bowl an unnatural line, because most RH bowlers grow up bowlling at RH batsmen. So to have to maintain the required line and length while bowling to LH batsmen is foreign to RH bowlers.

The obvious answer is to use LH bowlers, but as we know they are thin on the ground at the upper levels of the game.

The tatic of RH bowlers bowling around the wicket is not used as frequently as its success rate would indicate it should, eg Gilchrist in the 2005 Ashes was nullified by this tatic and this mornings dismissals of Hayden and Hussey.

Should RH bowlers be specifically training to over come their natural action and become specialists in round the wicket bowling ?
