Vaughan misses out. Bell retained. Rashid in Test squad. Sidebottom retained.

Ambrose out of ODI squad for Davies - hope he opens. Mascarenhas back.

fair enough squad, I wouldn't have minded seeing Vaughan in there just so he could be given a chance to play Ashes if he did well, but never the less the squad is what was expected.

Anyone know if Sidebottom will be fit?

Because the WI has always been a spinners' paradise, presumably.
Or alternatively to cover up the fact that (if you accept the line that Vaughan needs low-key match practice before being considered again) there are only 7 specialist batsmen in England in contention for the Test team. I thought Bopara would get a place if Vaughan didn't.

Three spinners, LOL

Is Prior going to lose his one-day place?

Will Bell start?

So many questions. Can't find a full squad list, can anyone help

I am interested to see what the bowling line up will be providing Sidebottom is fit. It will be especially interesting if 2 spinners are used.

I personally wanted to see Vaughan in the squad, but I am and have always been very pro-MPV and am perfectly capable of admitting I am biased in his favour.

It is stating the obvious to say that Bell has only retained his place due to lack of credible alternatives.

Rashid is never going to play, since it'll be one spinner per game and a straight fight between Swann and Monty for that spot. Why not send him with the Lions to actually get some bowling?

I'm pleased to see the selectors persisting with Sidey, and I assume (although optimistically, given their previous record with things like this) that there is some good news on his fitness.

How Luke Wright ever got in the team ahead of Mascarenhas was baffling, so that is definitely the right pick.

Interesting to see them start to work with Steven Davies. I think it's a good move, but presumably is the final nail in the coffin for James Foster - a real shame.

Starting XI should be:
Strauss, Cook, Bell/Shah, KP, Collingwood, Fred, Prior, Broad, Swann/Panesar, Sidebottom, Anderson & Harmison

Can't see the sense in picking Rashid at all.

Okay, thanks guys

Test XI, my current prediction

Strauss
Cook
Shah
Pietersen
Collingwood
Flintoff
Prior
Swann/Broad
Sidebottom
Harmison/Panesar
Anderson

If Monty plays then Harmy doesn't IMO, and if Swann plays Broad doesn't. But I've been wrong before

Good call

Vaughan's exclusion deserves commendation.

Harmison to take a bucketload of cheap wickets and reserve his spot till another mood swing.

Good to see faith reposed in Panesar.

And glad to see Mascrenhas back. His exclusion was puzzling for the Indian tour.

Bell deserved the sack, however the selectors have seen the long term utility in him and retained.

Overall reasonable well packed squad to deal with a much weaker opposition.

Pick 2 from Bell, Bopara & Davies, I suppose.
I know what you mean, but I couldn't name a county opener who deserves to be in the squad.
Denly or Key? PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let that be Davies and Bopara. Quite like the look of Corrin's XI if he changes the openers, possibly with Sammy Patel coming in for Sidebottom or Mascarenhas.
