Nash for WIndies

Australian-born batsman, Brendan Nash is switching his allegiance, as he will look to press on with his career in the West Indies. Nash, 29, having missed out on a spot with the Queensland Blues for the upcoming 2007-08 season, hopes to play for Jamaica next year, and further to represent West Indies at international level.

Nash to leave Australia for WI.

Interesting. I never really rated him at all, but I've seen worse players play for the West Indies recently.

He won't be eligible until he's 33, though, unless there are loopholes, so I can't see it happening.

His father is Jamaican so I think he would be eligible earlier .
Cricket tends not to care about such, though. Pietersen's mother was English, for example, and he still had to wait out the four years. Same goes for Geraint Jones despite his Welsh heritage.

How dare you?!!!!!!

Queensland Bulls!

Yeah, Nash was approached years ago by the Windies, but rejected the call. Good move for him, as he probably wouldn't have played at all for QLD, not even in the Ford Ranger Cup.

Didn't Pietersen have to do that though because he had represented South Africa at representive level? South Africa 'A' or something?

Nash has never played at that level for Australia.

Yeah, he's obviously had time/eligibility factors in mind when chosing this option so must be able to qualify pretty soon

Maybe he just wants to play FC cricket, considering his got next to no chance of playing in Australia. He probably choose Jamaica over other options, cus of his dad's contentions.

Mind you if was born in Jamaica or raised there for more then four years, he will only have to live there for six months to re-quaifly. Thats what David Hemp and John Davison did for Bermuda and Canada. But the rules are bit different for non Test playing nations.

I was always under the impression that players had to undergo a 4 year residential qualification if they weren't born in the country they wish to reprsent, but after looking up the ICC's full member criteria when Mascarenhas's potential availability for Sri Lanka was mentioned on here it turns out they're somewhat greyer. Link:

For Full Members, players must meet the following criteria:
1) A national of the country (as defined by the country) or
2) Born in the country

In addition to these central requirements, any player that has represented another Full Member country at U/19 level or above must wait four years before they are eligible to play for the new country.

So my reading of that is that if Nash can get a Jamaican passport from his dad being a Jamaican nation he can go straight in.

Which also means I can play for England. I'd surely be a better spinner than Michael Yardy, so watch out. :p

Has he got a realistic chance of playing for the Windies though? Don't know much/anything about him tbh

Nash has long been a fringe first class player in Australia. He has had him moments, but he's never cemented a spot in the Qld team. In saying that though, as I said before, I've seen worse players play for the WI recently.

Brendan Nash

Averages 27 in Pura Cup cricket, which isn't terrible, but I imagine he could do a lot better. If he scores enough runs over there then I suppose he will come into the mix.

I'm sure he'd average a little more if he was given an extended run in the Qld side. Not that averaging 30 odd is good enough to stay in the team though - hence he hasn't been given said run. I'm sure he'll do well domestically over there, but he's far from test class.

Who would say he's better than who have played for the Windies? Just wanna see where you rank him

Sylvester Joseph, Xavier Marshall, Dwayne Smith (when selected in the test team as a specialist batsman) - the usual dire suspects. I'd still rate someone like Wavell Hinds ahead of him though.

cheers. I think Dwayne Smith might come good soon....if he can stop throwing his wicket away

Will be interesting to see how he goes over there, i think he certainly has the potential to average mid-30's. A move like that trying to further his career is gutsy - all the best to him.
