Ajantha Mendis ruled out

Ajantha Mendis, the Sri Lankan spinner, will miss the two-Test series in Bangladesh, which begins on December 26, after injuring his ankle while bowling for Army SC in his first match of the domestic season against Tamil Union last weekend.

Ranjith Nanayakkarawasam, the Sri Lanka team physio, said Mendis had strained his right ankle and was undergoing treatment. "The injury will take at least three to four weeks to heal," he said. Mendis is expected to be back for the ODI tri-series against Bangladesh and Zimbabwe, scheduled to start on January 10.

Rangana Herath, the left-arm spinner, will take Mendis' place in Sri Lanka's 15-man Test squad. Herath's last Test was in March this year, against West Indies in Guyana.

Quite interesting to have the fourth day of a Bangladesh Test Match as a rest day.

WIll be annoying if Sri Lanka only need a few more wickets to win the match after 3 days.

Having said that, Bangladesh may be somewhat competitive. If Shakib bowls well and gets Sangakarra and Mahela out early Sri Lanka could struggle.

Imagine something like Bangladesh 161 & 112/8 vs SL 543/4 decl at the close of Day3 , and the other days are rained out.

There goes. Usual stupidity from the Selectors.

No Tharanga Paranavithana is the test squad. Easily our best opening batsman. No Warnapura in ODI squad. easily the most gifted ODI opener we have with the range of strokes. Then why pick Jayasuriya against minnows?

I think Jayasurya's pick is that Sri Lanka has done woefully in ODIs vs Zimbabwe and don't want to risk an embarrassment against the much better talented Bangladesh.

If that's the mind set, I'll sack all the first XI players and let SL A take there place. They have been beating Bangladesh hands down when ever they met. If SL needs Jayasuriya, Murali and Vaas to win against BAN, they should be sacked of their test status

Haha. Yeah, I think it's just that Mahela and Sanga have been out of form. Better that happens against minnows than when against biggies. And ******** thinking from selectors imho by getting Jay for the series. Could be that the others are fairly new and could learn a thing or two from the veteran.

Bangladesh lineup?
Tamim Iqbal
Imrul Kayes
Junaid Siddique
Mohammad Ashraful
Mehrab Hossain jnr
Raqibul Hasan
Shakib Al Hasan
Mushfiqur Rahim
Mashrafe Mortaza
Shahadat Hossain
Mahbubul Alam

Bolded players spots are under jeopardy.
I'm pretty sure one of Shahadat and Alam will play, and the other spot will likely go to a spinner if the pitch takes spin.

Imrul Kayes can't be too good, we need someone else to fill his spot.

Jayasuriya wanted to play so he could stay fit. Toss up between playing domestic cricket and this. Bangladesh > Sri Lanka domestic cricket.

Mathews gets another chance in the ODI squad. Might be time to change the avatar to Parana. He can bat at three as well, so should be the reserve batsmen atleast for the squad. Would back him over Dilshan and Silva tbh.
