Strong Domestc Sides

A rip off of the Aussie domestic thing, also to shift the current oT conversation in it to here, where its on topic. Basically, this thread is just to look at some good domestic XIs from around the world (you can include current internationals) for the hell of it.

e.g. Central Districts 2008 :p

Jamie How
Peter Ingram (averaging 50 odd since recall is 2006 or so)
Brad Patton (cleaning up early in his career)
Mathew Sinclair
Ross Taylor
Jacob Oram
Bevan Griggs
Ewen Thompson (MVP in the state championship. Getting wickets on flat tracks)
Michael Mason
Richard Sherlock
Mitchell McClennaghan (he and Sherlock are probably the quickest in the country and are developing nicely)

The batting is strong enough to leave out NZ A batsman Greg Hay, who averages 50+. Only Wellington and possibly Auckland with their ICL players back would back themselves to beat CD out of the NZ teams.

Predict some freakishly good WI 80s teams.

Shame about the keeper and the attack. : ninja :
Shame Wellington rely on Franklin to score all their runs. :p

Thompson, Mason and Oram are good bowlers. The only embarrasment of a bowler we have is Diamanti, or should I give that a Richard taste and say Diremanti?

Athlai

Not Terrible
Canterbury 99/00 00/01 so roughly 2000

MHW Papps (or CD Cumming)
NJ Astle
SP Fleming (c)
CD McMillan
CZ Harris
CL Cairns
GJ Hopkins (wk)
WA Wisneski
SJ Cunis
SE Bond
CS Martin

Current Mumbai team, with internationals:
All averages given are career averages.

Wasim Jaffer (Ave 49, absolute run machine)
Ajinkya Rahane (Average 61, he's just 20 too!)
Amol Muzmudar (Average 50 from over 140 matches)
Sachin Tendulkar/God (Ave: 59)
Rohit Sharma (Absolutely hate the guy: Ave 44)

That's just the top order, with the ball:

Ajit Agarkar (Batting Ave: 27? 241 @ 29.50)
Zaheer Khan (488 @ 28)
Ramesh Powar (Batting Average 30. 331 @ 27)
Sairaj Bahutule (Batting Average 31, 575 @ 25)
Dhawal Kulkarni (26 @ 16)

I'm probably missing a few players as well, but that's a great line up. Delhi have an awesome batting order as well: Just imagine this!

Virender Sehwag
Gautam Gambhir
Aakash Chopra
Shikhar Dhiwan

that four is good enough to take field for India tbh

That Mumbai team is very strong, but Sairaj appears to be over the hill and doesn't look like making an impact these days. Too much is made of Dhawal Kulkarni, he's too young and too small to be very useful, and that other youngster (Waingankar) should have been in the team ahead of him. The wicketkeeper, Vinayak Samant, is very under-rated and is possibly the best gloveman in the country. It's a tough call whether or not to include Abhishek Nayar, ahead of Bahutule, but it surely looks one of the strongest FC teams you can pick here.

This should be a complete Delhi lineup=
  • Sehwag
  • Gambhir
  • Chopra
  • Dhawan
  • Manhas
  • Bhatia/Yogesh Nagar (RM)
  • Punit Bhisht (WK)
  • Bhandari/Sumit Narwal (RMF)
  • Nanda (LBG)
  • Nehra (LFM)
  • Ishant (RFM)
Not a very balanced team, but still strong, though not quite as strong as Mumbai.

Early 2000's surrey side would have included

Butcher
Stewart
Thorpe
Batty
Tudor
Bicknell
Saqlain
Salisbury

Western Province potentially includes/included

Puttick
Smith
Duminy
Prince
Harvey
Kallis
Gibbs
Langeveldt

Surrey in the 1950s, test stats in brackets where applicable.

TH Clark
MJ Stewart (avg 35 in 8 tests)
PBH May (avg 46 in 66 tests)
KF Barrington (avg 58 in 82 tests)
EA Bedser
AJW McIntyre+ (19 runs in 3 tests)
GAR Lock (174 wickets at 25.58)
JC Laker (191 wickets at 21.24)
WS Surridge*
PJ Loader (39 wickets at 22.51)
AV Bedser (236 wickets at 24.89)

An absolutely tremendous bowling attack, even if the batting is a bit short. Surrey won the county championship 5 years in a row (1952-56) and this is an example team from 1955 that I just picked at random.

Current Baroda lineup-
  • Satyajit Parab
  • Connor williams
  • Jacob Martin (C)
  • Azhar Bilakhia
  • Rakesh Solanki
  • Yusuf Pathan (OB)
  • Pinal Shah (WK)
  • Irfan Pathan (LMF)
  • Rajesh Pawar (SLA)
  • Munaf Patel (RFM)
  • Irfan Safi Pathan (LM)
That pair of Parab and Williams is annoying but effective. I've taken the most recent XI as it looks the strongest, and you have a reasonably good (albeit ageing) top three. If only Dilhara Fenando was available, we'd change Number Eleven.
