I wanted to talk about Pakistan cricket. Post World Cup, what do you think?

Has it changed for the better or worse ?

Was bringing in the youngsters withoout anyone to guide them a good step? And is the team likely to produce results in the neat future?

I'm worried that they may not come out of this terribly competitive.

Post world cup I think Pakistan cricket has lost half it's charisma of the past. I think this is the worst Pak side since I started watching cricket. Throughout this period, Pakistan always had a good enough team to be a threat to any team. They need atleast three good batsmen - people with good technique.

BTW,
Imran Nazir was very promising indeed. I thought he had a long career ahead - Sachin like (in terms of longevity). How was he allowed to slip through the cracks?

I agree with you for the most part and I think the selectors have done a poor job. They've ditched almost all the experience and flung a bunch of youngsters in there.

1/ What did Saeed Anwar do wrong in the WC?
2/ Where has Saqlain been for the past few months?
3/ Why is everyone so easy on Shoaib Akhtar? He tampered with the ball more than once and gets such a useless punishment...
4/ Yosuf Youhana is stil
l class. :)

I hate the way that they've seemingly used so many players as though they were"World Cup specialists", dropping them immediately after.

Yasir Hameed looks damn good to me, I just hope the PCB keep him around rather than dropping him if he fails in England..I thought Imran Nazir was good but he was dropped after a couple of poor matches.

The PCB need to show some patience with these youngsters.

yeah he kept in the Bank Alfalah Cup when Latif was injured in the final i think.

Very good batsman I thought, but like most Pakistani youngsters had a tendency to try one too many aggressive shots & showed little patience but he could be really good if Pakistan stuck with him.

Tim you got that right !
Pakistanis are more aggressive that everybody else...... this I conclude from experience.....
In one practice match last year (during which i retired due to dehydration because it was around 44-45 deg. C) I bowled my first over..... continually beat the pakistani outside off, he then launched himself at the ball and heaved it away for 2 HUGE consecutive sixes over midwicket, Then I came back for my second over.....1st ball :FOUR......
2nd ball:OUTSIDE EDGE FOR FOUR MORE......
3rd ball: TWO heaved over mid-on
4th ball: WICKET, lbw to a yorker....

I think that the new PCB is doing a good job and the results show it. They are continuing with the young palyers and sticking with them. I think they will beat England 2-1 in the one day series.

Eng have an inexperienced batting and there is no Collingwood in the middle. I feel that the Eng batting will struggle against Pak Bowling.

I anticipate a close series with both sides weaker than normal. Fortunately I will be home to watch it all! :D

England : Unproven batting lineup.
Pakistan : Unproven bowling lineup.

should make for one heck of a match coz I don't think the English batting will struggle as much as a lot of people think.

There is no way Pak cricket can improve in the long run unless Pak domestic cricket becomes better organized or if Pak get a powerful personality like Imran as captain. Both are unlikely.

As for encouraging performances, when Waqar became captain the same happened, and look at what happened eventually. Infact its so fickle that I wont be surprised if Wasim is the captain in about 6 months from now.

Sticking with youngsters is good, who is to guide them though?

Shoaib is full in his head, whereas all of the rest are youngsters.

Batting has never been Pakistan's strong point in recent years, Yet I see no experience in the top order or for that matter in the middle order. Youhanna is the only class player in the team. Class or talent however is not the question here, Will they be able to make it all the way to the top and match top sides, if so Who is to guide them?!

England should win the series quite easy as the Pakistani batsmen are likely to faulter with the excessive swing and exaggerated seam movement on those pitches. The bowling attack will be something to look out for.

Once Wasim gets a sniff of international cricket again, who wants to bet that he'll change his mind & come out of retirement?

Pakistani cricket is a shambles at the moment, im not saying this because I hate Pakistan as a cricket nation but because i'd really like to see them improve again.

However Its not simple at all, watching Pakistan in the Bank Alfalah Cup at times they were magnificent but generally they lacked patience & there seemed to be no rudder steering them.
Its not just the players, you have to think at times just what the hell the PCB are doing..they go through coaches like its the normal thing to do & they chop & change their team far too often giving youngsters no real chance to gain an understanding at international level. Infact Imran Nazir is a really good example..he's got ability no doubt about it but after one poor tour I think he went into exile before coming & going last year during the Australian Series in Sri Lanka.

Pakistan cricket needs a huge overhaul in terms of their cricketing structure otherwise they'll continue to be hit & miss.

I guess i'm with the minority over here, as i think that the selectors have done a good job really, there was no point in sticking with fading old guard, no futute in it really.

1, Anwar may had a good WC, but how long do you think he would have continued for Pak? In his place Pak have found a very exciting player in Hafeez.

2, Shoaib Malik has taken Saqlain's place and is doing very well, Saqlain might still be considered for test matches .

Pakistan have atleast three real quality youngsters in the team in Hafeez, Malik and Yasir Hameed.Sami has always impressed me and i'm safe to say that he will be a class pacer in a year or two. However as Miandad said, Sami would have been a much better player now had he been alowed to play earlier for Pakistan.Had Waqar younis still been playing for Pak, Sami would have continued to be the towel boy for team!
All in all things are getter better for Pakistan.

Bringing in youngsters was never the dispute, Its how they are being brought in. Sure Javed can do a lot, he cant do everything though. Wasim and Waqar, Anwar and Inzi would have been the ideal players to guide these youngsters. The way it is being done now, they'll learn it the hard way, maybe some of them will fade away in doing so.
