The SCG XI from 1990 until now, plus other ground by ground teams

NZTailender

I can't believe I ate the whole thing
After looking over some stats today, I was thinking about who would be in the first eleven for each ground, based on performance.

Originally I was going to do a 'Ground of Origin' type of XI, using simply the players at their own home ground (i.e. Slater at SCG, Hayden at the Gabba, etc) but that would often turn out as simply being the best state/county/provincial side of the home ground in question.

So, I'll start. For the purpose of this particular XI I focused on the time since 1990, but feel free to have your own criteria for the ground you choose. :)

SCG XI
1. MJ Slater - 555 @ 55.00
2. ML Hayden - 892 @ 55.75
3. RP Ponting - 1282 @ 75.41
4. SR Tendulkar - 664 @ 221.33
5. SR Waugh - 921 @ 48.47
6. VVS Laxman - 481 @ 96.20
7. AC Gilchrist+ - 730 @ 52.14
8. SK Warne - 64 @ 28.12
9. D Gough - 11 @ 21.18
10. SCG MacGill - 53 @ 24.47
11. GD McGrath - 50 @ 23.44
12th: A Kumble - 20 @ 32.95

Bit of a slim pickings there for the bowlers who aren't Australian, with very few playing more than 2 matches with any success.

Picked batting firstly on centuries scored and then by average. Brian Lara scored a magnificent 277 here, but in his other 6 innings mustered 107 runs, not crossing 50 in any of those innings.
Honourable mention to Mike Atherton, 263 runs from 2 tests @ 87.66.
Justin Langer, Mark Waugh and Mark Taylor the only other batsmen to score more than 1 century here.

Would be very interested to see a Lords XI and an Eden Gardens XI.

I'd want Viv Richards in there on principle (433 runs at 61.85 including the fastest Test century in history). He'd replace Bravo.

Edit: just seen the rules and I imagine you're basing it on performance since 1990. In which case, fair enough.

I am surprised Hayden doesn't average more than Sidhu at Chepauk..

nah.. put him at 3 and drop down Amla..

Or even McKenzie.. he is a middle order bat anyway.. Hayden and Sehwag opening with Tendulkar coming in at 3 would be sweeeeeeeeeeet.. :)
