First part - I doubt whether many would disagree.
Second part - Pass it over here, man. That's good stuff you're smoking. Your sense of humour is stranger than mine.

If we are choosing the best opening batsman in the world, it has to be Hayden.

1. He is the best specialist opener in the world - by specialist, I mean someone who consistently opens the batting at Test and ODI level, and in this case, he is almost peerless as the superior.

2. He's close to the best bat in the world anyway!

I disagree with this statement. Yes he's a very good player and an outstanding opener, but Sachin is far and away ahead of him as best bat IMO.

Wll I dont quite agree.

Tendulkar is the best because of his amazing consistancy over a long period of time but If you were to pick your best batsman over the last 2 years Mathew Hayden is the best in the world by far. Quite simpily his output has far suparsed Tendulkar.

I still Think Tendulkar is the best but statisticly Hayden has him well coverd over the last 2-3 years.

Tendulkar doesn't get himself out to stupid shots. Until that is righted, Hayden will never come close to him in terms of overall batting prowess.

Thats totaly iralivent what matters is how many runs are made and Hayden has made more at a better avrage & strike rate than Tendulkar over the last 2-3 years.

Over the last 2 years Hayden has probably been the most intimidating test batsman in the world bar Gilly.

Since 2000 Hayden has 3214 runs at 59.52 and SRT 2970 at 59.4

Not really far surpassing him!

Well it's probably more realistic to look at the last 2 years because it was not untill late 2000 that Hayden started doing well.

That's very relevant. Notice I used the term prowess not talent or skill. There's a difference.

So your claim is that two years work makes him almost as good a batsman as Tendulkar?

Dont get ahead of your self mate I never said He was as good as Tendulkar all i said is he has been as good & better over the last 2 years.

Never said he was more talented or a better overall batsman.

Matty Hayden (3yrs ago to his latest Test)
3175 runs @ 61.05 in 34 Tests (58 innings)

13 hundreds, 10 fifties
----------------------------
Sachin Tendulkar (2yrs ago to his latest Test)
3138 runs @ 60.34 in 33 Tests (56 innings)

10 hundreds, 13 fifties
-----------------------------
Yep. Hayden has clearly smoked Tendulkar. My mistake.

Well as I said 2000 was not that good for him just 269 runs at 33.

Any way It may not be far saparsing him but it certainlty holds it's weight because he has outperformed him over that period of time and against better oposition.

Translated to mean it suits you to look at a very restricted period rather than all the time since his recall (surely a fairer period)

If you want to do it that way, we should discount after November because Tendulkar had to play on poor wickets in NZ... ;)

Yes and if you cant see that and notice that I am actualy trying to do just that then you are not qute as smart as you think.

I am not trying to show Hayden as the better batsman only state a statistical fact & I am not trying to hide the fact that I am only basing this on the last 2-3 years.

Ether way my point hold's it's own Hayden has beaten Tendulkar output wise over that period of time. Obviously not as well as I though he had but that was never my point any way.

Notice - close. Statistically, since his recall, he has been close to the best batsman in the world, and being number 1 Test bat and ODI bat at the same time just a few months ago, surely he has to be close?

0.12 of a run per innings, I know who I'd rather have in my side.
