Why dont you rate ponting ? that is very interestingCaptain rankings:
1. MS Dhoni
2. Mahela Jayawardena
3. Chris Gayle
4. Daniel Vettori
5. Graeme Smith
I dont rate Ricky Ponting at all, a year ago Stephen Fleming would have been leading the pack.
I never understand when australia have a team struggling as indi are at the moment and he will not bowl agressive bowlers such as Lee. Where as if south africa or sri Lanka ever have a team on the ropes smith or jayawardne will throw the ball straight to Steyn or Malinga and 9 times out of ten will pick up another wicket. That is why I don't like or rate ponting.Ponting, great at leading from the front. Tactically average at best.
AWTA, except I've no idea about Gayle.Captain rankings:

I feel like Gayle to an extent is like Ponting. He's the kind of player who can lead from the front with a good innings.AWTA, except I've no idea about Gayle.
Actually. He knows his presence is extremely vital for Aus to win against NZ. So he put team's interest (long term) in front of err... team's interest.(short term.)ponting is such a selfless leader
His presence isn't vital for Australia to beat NZ. Don't be ridiculous.Actually. He knows his presence is extremely vital for Aus to win against NZ. So he put team's interest (long term) in front of err... team's interest.(short term.)
Agreed that Jayawardene is a pretty awesome captain. Sri Lanka have been a fantastic side of late with really only about 3 world class test players... I don't know how much it indicates, but the recent India-SL series comes to mind where Jayawardene made immaculate use of the referral system - pure luck? or cricketing genius? You can't rate Dhoni as a better test captain than Jayawardene yet.
Mahela's record is amazing considering the considerably less talented team and resources he has (even taking into consideration Murali and Sanga, Mendis has only recently come to the fore) compared to other countries.
Maleha is the best captain in the world IMO. Dhoni may challenge him when we see more of him on the centre stage in test cricket. Dhoni's fields to spinners still aren't the best IMO, I thought his fields at the end of day 2 were poor and let Katich and Hussey get runs far too easily. He'll learn though, what a leader.
I imagine that post was ironic, but TBH I'd say that anyone thinking "oh well I can afford to be suspended for 2 games against New Zealand" is taking a pretty shocking attitude. His presence isn't vital for Australia to beat NZ. Don't be ridiculous.
