Good to see a first-class debutant in Rutherford is included in the "race for Redmond's" spot. No, really, that's a great idea. I know Athlai is looking at everyone who is playing in this round of FC cricket, but that's just stupid. Give the poor bugger a break.

It has nothing at all to do with the players, just how the openers are preforming around the country. Jeez Volters gimme a break. By showing how all of these guys are doing we are getting a fair example of the pool of talent of NZ openers, this includes even FC debutants since they are playing FC in NZ.

Honestly we'd probably be better off making Vettori open.

Patton gets a hundy for CD. IIRC that 2 fifties and 1 hundred in 2 matches. Weston gets 60 odd too, yuss.

And Auckland are getting hammered, all is well.

Only got a brief look at Franklin earlier today, but he seems to be coming off a decent run up of about 20-30 meters. His deliveries still looked a bit loopy though, so I'd imagine he's a way off full pace, fitness and form at the moment.

After scoring all his runs in boundaries in the first innings. Bizarre.

Reckon he's just trying to show off all his qualities to the selectors.

Look I can hit a quick 16 and get out, look I can grind out an ugly 30 from 150 balls and get out!

International Debutant
Boult 5fa on debut (in NZ)..I picked it, give me a medal.

Our young stocks are looking pretty good. The 3 best U19 players in the country (bar Southee) are the 3 best performing players for their teams in FC cricket so far this season, Anderson, Williamson and Boult.

How much you swing the ball, and which way? Swing is king.

Doesnt it irk you that Doug Bracewell made his debut before you? IIRC your stats were better than his on that England tour, plus you creamed that 25 odd off like 2 balls to beat those 17 year old kids...that must have been fun. Also, you still have Greg Morgan to overtake!!! I think it's time for a move down south mate.

I'd be interested to know Jimmy's opinions on Morgan. He strikes me as a guy who might go the Scott Styris route i.e. a batsman who can bowl. His bowling is quite gentle but he looks a very capable batsman.

In some ways the U-19 players performing is annoying, because it would be insanity to pick them for NZ seniors but yet they keep carving up and its fustrating. grr.

Wish we'd have players who pick a discipline and focus on it, rather than trying to cover all bases to stay in a side.

But then I guess that leaves us with guys like Chris Martin and James Marshall :(

Yea but trying to be a specialist fielder is just silly
Not unless they enjoy being 12th man. Was going to say Jonty but that's a very very very small minority he's in.

Edit: should add a  to indicate the not-so-serious nature of this post.

Geeze, sounding like Richard with his 'Jest' disclaimer.
