Myburgh isn't playing for canterbury at the moment because he's injured, not because he was dropped. He batted well in the first match, scoring 67.

And I wouldn't be at all surprised if McCullum gives up the gloves to focus on being a specialist batsman, especially if he continues to have back problems.
Yeah, I know..I just felt like being disagreeable.

Nah, its not such a good look to lose your nut in front of Auckland selectors, haha.

Yea I'm pretty sure he's still keeping for Cornwall. And yes, he is, lol. If he was still under 19 now I'd rate him as the 4th keeper-batsman, behind Cachopa, Bracewell and Austin-Smellie.
It shows you're passionate mate!

Austin-Smellie...I feel sorry for that bloke, he must have copped hell at school.

You have a keeper called smelly? :p

I'll be sad if he does, he's a class keeper.

Van Wyk I rate, though there is stiff competition and Hopkins is still the second choice.

Myburgh is a good batsman, but the other 7 or so no.3s include Fulton, Ryder, Sinclair, Todd, hyped up Merchant, this new guy Patton and er, Reece Young.

He'd be at the pointy end of the list though

I hope an SOS comes to James Franklin for the home series after an annihilation at the hands of Australia. It would also bolster our woefull tail atm.

There's not really much wrong with our tail at the moment is there? I would think that it's our top order which needs the help.
Yeah, no tail with Vettori in it can be wholly crap. In fact our tail probably scores more runs than our top 3.

So, whilst we have a bit of quiet overnight with no domestic games on field, presuming the suspected crap players follow that course, what shoud we do for the WI? Persist, or make changes? If changes occur, who?

Hoping like hell Redmond scores runs tbh, because Guptill isn't quite ready yet and the thought of Papps vs pace, even if its only the WI, is quite scary.

If the one season wonder from ND fails though, then I'd happily cast him out of the ODI side definitely, and he'd be on thin ice for the test team. His ODI record has shown us nothing, an attractive and gritty batsman sure, but he's scored no runs in like 11 games and thats a fair go, he should at least have a fifty to his name in ODIs, or at least better than a 30 odd, considering the fact he got in ahead of others on the basis of one good season.

In saying that, I think Flynn does have a future in the NZ side, but not yet.

As for the others, Taylor is a tricky one, as soon as doubt appears in the publics mind he scores three good knocks then goes back to being fustrating. I'd like him to be given an extended run at five, or possibly even Flynns position at six, because he's ready, he's just inconsistent at the beggining of his career.

Nah Papps will be fine. Hopefully he scores a stack early in the First Class season and finally gets to play while he's actually in form and not months after. Having a crack against a team that isn't South Africa would be nice, too.

against NSW we had Vettori at 7 which is hardly part of the tail its the middle order. We had Southee at 9, O'Brien at 10 and Martin at 11. In the last few years we had a tail with Vettori at eight, Franklin at 9 and Mills at 10, obviously martin 11, now that is what I call a good tail.

I've always had my suspicions that Papps is no fan of pace and sometimes seems almost Sinclair-ish at the creas somehow. Though inside NZ (and away from fast tracks like Napier) he should be OK hopefully. Australia or SA though, hmm...

He's not scoring many runs lately. Got out to an U-19 rep for sod all today, though it was Trent Boult who has been quite good in his limited NZ emerging players and A career iirc.

Generally though Vettori is at eight, and probably will be again on Thursday.

Has something happened to the pitch since Wellington declared on 428?

Auckland are in the poos against CD. :(

Great to see Jimmy bowling and by the looks of things bowling well. Is he off his full runup yet?

Think I'll go down to the basin later today and have a look. His two bowling spells so far have been 4 and 5 overs respectively so I'd imagine he's bowling pretty much close to a full run up and they're just bowling him in short spells to ease him into the work.

Every run counts from here boys, should be interesting to see how this changes as the season goes on.
