hey SRI guy how would you profile former Sri Lankan seamers Rumesh & Ravi Ratnayake & De Mel?
De Mel was fast medium. More erratic, quicker, right handed version of Vaas. No where as fit as Vaas was BTW. Hence had a lot of injuries. However he had the attitude and killer instinct.
Rumesh Ratnayeke was pretty quick, and getting to 90mph regularly. He also had a serious shoulder injury. If not he would have been the best fast bowler from SL. Once again very soft man. Seriouly lacked killer instinct.
Ravi Ratnayaka was fast medium. Pretty tall, 6'1 6'2" region, hence produced some bounce. Absolutely brutal when he's on the zone as Pakistani's found him in Sialkot where he took 8/83, but was not in the zone nor mood most of the time. Very soft man. Pretty good with bat, averaged 40 in last 10 marches with the bat. Retired at 30 years, or could have been a very good batting all rounder.

Yeah England really lagged Behind with the pitch covering.
I think the last holdouts only succumbed in the early-mid eighties.

Worth mentioning there's a difference between pre-WWI and later uncovered pitches. They used to be completely uncovered, but gradually the practice of protecting the creases came in. Before this fast bowlers couldn't use wet pitches as the landings were wet. I remember once seeing footage which showed pitch in England with cover on the square and runs but a gap for the pitch. Looked pretty funny.

There were other late holdouts of uncovered pitches too, like the Delhi India vs West Indies test in 1974:

Roberts' pre-'78 bowling action is just ?
