That's about it...Though I would like Saqlain to be replaced by either Warne or Murali (not looking at their stats in WC though)...

Sachin Tendulkar and Adam Gilchrist will open the batting for this team. Mcgrath and Akram will take the new ball.

Viv Richards is leading the poll for no.3 slot by quite a distance.

I will open for the Spinner and All-rounder soon.

We will come back to the fourth bowling option at the end after the spinner, all the batters and all rounder are selected.

I intend to have the honorable runners up from the pacers poll - hadlee, ambrose, and imran, the runners up from the all rounders poll and the spinner's poll in this race for the last spot.

If the honourable losers of no. 3 batsman poll are given chances in no. 4, 5 and no. 6 polls, then why the honourable losers of opening batsmen poll are not given chance in these polls?...I mean someone may prefer Ganguly at no. 5 or Jayasuriya at no. 6 over others (not saying that I will)...If you say they haven't played much in no. 5 or no. 6 in WC, so haven't some losers in no. 3 batsman poll also...

let me work out a minimum match criteria... you've raised a fair point..

but my contention is openers are specialists.. middle order batters are more adaptable..

will start the all rounders poll soon

I am clueless...On what logic Ponting gets included in no. 5 batsman poll, but Jayasuriya doesn't...On what logic Bevan gets included in no. 3 batsman poll, but Ganguly doesn't???....What on earth proves that Ponting or Bevan are more adaptable than Ganguly or Jayasuriya?...I say either nominate only players who've played a good number of matches in a certain position, OR, nominate all batsmen for all places...

Edit: I would understand your point if it had been a test match team...But in a ODI there is as much difference between batting at no. 2 and no. 5 as there is between batting at say no. 3 and no. 6...

your argument sounds right. but it is not.

sachin, for example, is as much a specialist opener in ODIs and he was a specialist no.4 in tests. making him open in tests would be worse than making him bat at no.4 in ODIs, I agree - and we can support this with stats. but still, he is a specialist middle order bat in tests and full time opener in ODIs. similarly none of us have chosen any other opener to partner him in this team hoping to use gilchrist later. it is simply because he is perceived as an opener. if not, most of us - including me - would've gone for anwar or jayasuriya and brought in gilchrist at 6 or 7. but we didnt.

i will stick to 300 runs and 30 + average as minimum criteria for 4,5 and 6. and include runners up from no.3 poll. If a lot of members feel that we should include runners up from the openers poll i will add an extra option for that too.

You didn't get my point...Precisely, my point is that if someone asks me to choose between Mark Waugh and Allan Lamb for the no. 4 spot, I'll choose Mark Waugh (and I am not alone)....Still, by your method Mark doesn't get nomination for no. 4 spot, but Lamb gets...

I agree with the point being made by weldone (even though I dont think Jayasuriya is a good choice for number four for specific reasons). But the logic is right. Mark Waugh's example is perfect.

I will keep an option for a "Wild Card". You can click that and type the name of the player in your QR.

I am posting the poll for the allrounder in a while. keeping 200 runs at 20+ average and 10 wickets at 35- average as the criteria. viv richards turned up in the list. leaving him out of the poll since he is already in the team at no.3. with warne winning the spinner's spot and richards available to spin the ball if necessary (and sachin too) i dont see murali making it to this team. but we will leave that argument for the fourth bowler's spot.

3. Viv Richards
4. ----
5. ----

7.
Imran Khan (leadin the all rounder's poll)
8. ----
9. Wasim Akram
10. Shane Warne
11. Glen Mcgrath

usually about 30 odd votes get registered before a poll of this nature is decided. i've seen it in earlier threads as well. but the all rounder's slot has got only 27 responses so far. since imran seems to have a comfortable lead, we will keep him in the team and procedd to the fourth bowler's poll, which will essentially have all runners up from earlier bowling options.

8. (Tight race between Hadlee and Kapil)

10. Shane Warne

The poll for the No.4 and No.5 slots is on right now. Apart from the 300 runs, 30+ ave crowd in the given slots, I've also added Ricky Ponting - the only other man to get any vote in the No.3 poll and an option for a wild card. The No6 poll will feature the runners up from this poll and the specialists in that slot.

He has 6 bowlers, not 7. 6 real options is good to have so you can mix things up and cover for anyone having a crap day, but 7 genuine bowlers is probably overkill IMO.

3. Viv Richards
4. Ricky Ponting (leading by a mile)
5. Steve Waugh or Martin Crowe
6. ----
7. Imran Khan
8. Hadlee
(unless Kapil makes a dramatic come back)
9. Wasim Akram
10. Shane Warne
11. Glen Mcgrath

if i keep 300 runs or 250 runs as the cut off for no 6 only michael bevan and kapil dev make the cut.

so, for the last batting slot at no.6, i propose 200 runs scored at 5,6, or 7 as the minimum criteria. this will give us more options - like symonds for example...

if anyone has other ideas, let me know....
