Saw the replay of Vaughan's out last night. Look, how can a fella who's as classy a player as him just lose his off stump for a living like he does?

Vaughans percentage of being dismissed by being bowled is no more staggering than other fine players in the world. He has been bowled 22 times (prior to this Test) in 143 innings which works out as a percentage 16.4%, compared to Tendulkar 18.3%, Lara's was slightly lower at 15.9%, the Wall that is Dravid has been bowled in 19% of his dismissals. Only Ponting is a great deal lower at around 12%.

Very early days in this series, but Smith's captaincy has been very confusing at times with regards field settings and bowling changes, Poor Morkel must have upset him this morning after the skippers reluctance to use him much earlier, following a rather tame opening spell from Ntini.

I think that Smith's dilemma is that he believes Ntini is the senior bowler so he gets first go with the new ball and on a fresh morning. He followed the same policy with Pollock even when he clearly no longer warranted the new ball because his pace had dropped off so alarmingly. He was the ideal first change bowler.

He has to tell Ntini that Steyn and Morkel the younger more dangerous bowlers will be preferred.

In essence I think that Nel is a more lethal bowler these days than Ntini anyway.

He came in at a fairly even time. The saffies then bowled a pile of dross at him so he of all people was something like 30* after 18 balls faced. Easy peasy.

TBF though, we had just lost 3 wickets in no time at all, so there was pressure on in that way. Obviously at 300/3 and 400/4 the runs are going to come easier, but credit must go to him and Pietersen for rebuilding the innings after a good start threatened to disappear.

It's not so much that he gets bowled, it's the fact that whenever he gets bowled it's always by either an unplayable delivery or by a decent delivery whereby Vaughan makes it look like an absolute jaffa due to his static foot movement and/or playing down the wrong line and/or getting squared up.

I bet a vast proportion of his 23 bowled dismissals (24 if you include McGrath's no-ball in the Ashes) are him being clean bowled rather than off the inside edge/pad etc. hence a lot of Youtube footage floating around of him being bowled leading to a common misconception that he gets bowled waay too often and far more than his contemporaries.
